Sony BDP-S380 & BBC iPlayer

I recently purchased this item and did a network update to ensure I had the lastest firmware, however BBC iPlayer does not appear on the list of Network video items. I noticed that some people had been having the same issue on the BDP-S370 so I tried one of there suggestions (reseting network information), however it still did not work. Any suggestions?

I'm a new owner of a BDP-S380 too and iPlayer is quitting out when playing HD content. I've also had several restarts on Demand 5 content also.

I noticed there was a question about being on Virgin Media..i am, but wonder what dfference that makes?

I have a 30 meg connetion and other HD content on the player streams fine..so it looks to be application specific.

Any help appreciated as it's one of the main reasons i purchased this brand / model.

I have the same problem on my S380 with BBC iPlayer HD. Other HD content such as uStudio is fine. Spoke to Sony support and they now acknowledge this bug. I have also found that if I can fast forward before it crashes the content will play to the end. However if I rewind to the start it crashes again. Let's hope this will be fixed soon.

Unfortunately they haven't made much difference. The program starts to play and then return to the menu screen after about 3 or 4 seconds.

As mentioned, all other HD programs and clips are fine, so i'm guessing it's iPlayer.

Is it possible this could be investigated as it's was one of the key features i selected the player for.

This is becoming increasingly annoying, as each time I watch iPlayer HD (not had it happen on iPlayer non-HD) or Demand 5, I am being suffering restarts, UNLESS I fast forward and then rewind within the first few seconds of the show. On iPlayer HD I am also getting a frozen picture, with the sound continuing normally. Sometimes this corrects itself, but sometimes I have to do another FFW and REW session to get it to work.

I can stream iPlayer without any glitches through my desktop PC on the same internet connection, so can someone from Sony please come up with a solution for this, as it was one of the main selling points of this Blu-Ray player?

Mine's the same with Demand 5 too...stops after a few seconds and goes to the next programme.

I too can stream HD fine on both my PC and my Popcornhour, so it isn't the internet connection.

Please could we have some reassurance that this will be investigated further?

I've just updated the S380 to the firmware released on 15/06/11 and hoped for improvement, but no. Tried playing the iPlayer HD version of Andrew Marr's megacities and it stopped at around 25 second in repeatedly. If I fast forward to around 45 seconds it continues to play.

Can someone at Sony please respond to this, as it is not my ISP (O2), or my network (plugged via short ethernet cable into my modem/router) or bandwidth (6.6Mbps reported by the S380)?

Its a tough one as there are no known issues with iPlayer at the moment as far as we're aware, indeed, if they were widespread, there would be a lot more noise on the forums about it.

So my guess is that there is something about your unique  combination of your ISP, physical line and device which is causing the problem. Assumign you have updated the firmware, it might be worth getting it tested on another broadband connection to see if that makes a difference.

I too am getting the exact same error as reported by other users. Go an HD program on BBC iPlayer and after a few seconds, usually 10, the program stops and returns to the respective BBC iPlayer program page.

Like others I have a fast Ethernet connection, fast broadband connection (tested using BBC iPlayer diagnostics and confirmed as being around 19Mbps, easily higher than the 3.5Mbps required for iPlayer HD TV).

History of the S380 player: bought new, turned up today, plugged in, updated to latest formware as instructed by the device. Doesn't play HD streamed content. All other SD streamed content is fine.

Seriously considering sending back.

Like others' assertion: this must be a device issue.
