Z2 Contact & Messaging keep crashing

Very odd one...

Today suddenly both Messaging and Contacts became virtually unuseable.  Both kept crashing and the device was getting through it battery really fast and getting hot.  I tried to figure out what was wrong however as i had not installed any apps for a few days i could not see any reason for this sudden change.

I defaulted the device and started again, I have just got everying back and its started again.

When opening Messaging it wil be really slow - when typing the message its slow and you have to wait for the text to catch up.

When you go to dial a number it trys to query the number you are dialling against contacts - it keeps crashing and closing Contacts.

If you turn off WiFi and mobile data it seems to be better but still crashes from time to time.

I have selected to sync my contacts from Facebook and Exchange email however currently my contacts are empty.  Despite this i recieved an SMS from a Facebook contact and it displays their name in Messaging - but they are not there in contacts...

With Wifi truned on the device seems to be getting really hot.

Its all really odd and i am totally stumpped.

Even I had this problem earlier once and could not make any calls/messages but then after clearing the data from Settings -> Apps (contact app) and restarting the mobile, my phone started functioning perfectly fine. I have now started getting these Crash reports again (less than a month after clearing the App data) though this time I am able to make calls but they get disconnected whenever the app crashes. I read in one of the forums that Sony is trying to fix this bug, crashing the basic app of the phone, in its recently released update. I have not received any bugfix or update on this. Does anyone hava an idea.

I am also struggling with the same issue.

Not only that, the contacts app links contacts randomly to make my life **bleep**.

I have cleared all the data several times, and when it syncs it messes everything up again.

This is a serious problem, as it is one of the key apps in the phone.

Same issue here as well. This is really spoiling an otherwise excellent phone!

Kinda of wish they'd just use the stock Android contacts and dialer apps.

I agree... My nexus 7 keeps the contacts in perfect shape!!

I have same problem also with contacts.. I hope Sony can release a new update soon because it's very annoying to take errors always..

+1 I'm experiencing this too.

Typically, this is the sequence:

- Contacts crashes

- phone crashes, together with the SIM and any ongoing calls

- acore crashes

- in a few seconds, the SIM recovers

I can provide a whole logcat or help with debugging or test updates or whatever you might need, but Sony PLEASE fix my NEW phone because a phone that crashes when trying to make calls is outrageous.

edit: another thing I noticed in the logs, is that the phone keeps "Waiting for service AtCmdFwd" which never succeeds.

I'm sick to death of making 5 attempts to call someone so it finally connects!

I have made another post about this problem.

I have private mail+contacks on gmail

and work mail+contacks on Exchange....

in messages\adressebok and calls (every place where the phone look up contackts) it hangs\stops  

And batterilife was 1day  - not much used

 - deleting the Exhange account made my phone work...

Maby its more easy to tell my wotk to change to gmail rather then fixing this.

Hi Jonathan!

Did you find a resolution to this problem please? My phone crashes often when I use the text messaging. I have wiped the software and re-installed it but it's happening again.

One thing I have noticed, there is a scratch on my screen protector, above where the keyboard appears. Could this be something to do with it?
