Z2 Contact & Messaging keep crashing

Very odd one...

Today suddenly both Messaging and Contacts became virtually unuseable.  Both kept crashing and the device was getting through it battery really fast and getting hot.  I tried to figure out what was wrong however as i had not installed any apps for a few days i could not see any reason for this sudden change.

I defaulted the device and started again, I have just got everying back and its started again.

When opening Messaging it wil be really slow - when typing the message its slow and you have to wait for the text to catch up.

When you go to dial a number it trys to query the number you are dialling against contacts - it keeps crashing and closing Contacts.

If you turn off WiFi and mobile data it seems to be better but still crashes from time to time.

I have selected to sync my contacts from Facebook and Exchange email however currently my contacts are empty.  Despite this i recieved an SMS from a Facebook contact and it displays their name in Messaging - but they are not there in contacts...

With Wifi truned on the device seems to be getting really hot.

Its all really odd and i am totally stumpped.

Please help!

I didnt know there was such a thing as safe mode!

I have tred it in safe made and exactly the same happens.  I have also noticed that when i just try to dial a number to call it seems to crash saying 'Unfortuantely, Contacts has stopped working'.

I completed the latest android update on Saturday and its seemed fine since.

When Wifi is off its slightly better but far from being right.

With Wifi on it is getting so hot its crazy...

Any other ideas?

MAny Thanks

Did you try settings-apps-all,messages and phone app, force stop and clear data? Tell me if that helps.

OK i have tried that and initially it seemed a bit more responsive.  I turned on wifi and kicked off a contacts sync - it stopped again.

A bit more info.  I noticed this morning my work Exchange email account had not synced since i completed the Android update on Saturday.  There was no obvious reason why it would not sync therefore i decided to delete the account and connect it again.  About the same time that it would have completed its initial sync i started to get these problems.

Do you think its linked to the update?

Do you have an exchange email account on your phone?

Did this stop working after the update?

I have just deleted the exchange email account and it seems to be performing a little better at the moment.

Not sure what i am going to do as i need the exchange email account on it!
