Very odd one...
Today suddenly both Messaging and Contacts became virtually unuseable. Both kept crashing and the device was getting through it battery really fast and getting hot. I tried to figure out what was wrong however as i had not installed any apps for a few days i could not see any reason for this sudden change.
I defaulted the device and started again, I have just got everying back and its started again.
When opening Messaging it wil be really slow - when typing the message its slow and you have to wait for the text to catch up.
When you go to dial a number it trys to query the number you are dialling against contacts - it keeps crashing and closing Contacts.
If you turn off WiFi and mobile data it seems to be better but still crashes from time to time.
I have selected to sync my contacts from Facebook and Exchange email however currently my contacts are empty. Despite this i recieved an SMS from a Facebook contact and it displays their name in Messaging - but they are not there in contacts...
With Wifi truned on the device seems to be getting really hot.
Its all really odd and i am totally stumpped.
Please help!
Hi
No, i still have problems. I am in dialogue with one of the Sony guys on here via PM. The latest is:
This evening i have:
Deleted all sync accounts (facebook, googlemail, exchange, linkedin.
Restated phone
Force closed contacts
Cleared the contact cache
Restarted phone
Setup Exchange sync.
I now have all my exchange contacts on the device and it seems to function fairly well - conacts still stop responding about 10% of the time and messaging is slow however at least i have contact.
I added Facbook sync and contact became unresponsive. So i removed it again.
It seems that if there is either too many contacts (ie syncing Facebook, Exchange, Googlemail, Linked in) or if there are too many duplicates it just falls apart.
I would love someone to find the answer however i know the Sony dev's are on the case.
Many Thanks
Jonathan
i have the same problem. tried changing sim card, but doesn't help.
confirmed as software issue.
i sync with gmail, and have over ten thousand contacts.
never have any problem with samsung note 2.
when contacts crashes, it shows no signal and no sim at the top.
Hi
When my contracts / messaging crash i dont have the sim card error.
It only seem to happen when i have an exchange active sync account connected to the device. I believe Sony developers are looking into it.
Many Thanks
Jonathan
I removed roughly 7,000 contacts from my phone, erased ActiveSync and Google...now I'm down to roughy 600 contacts and it still crashes 80% of the time. This makes my phone unusable and disappointing.
Not only that, if I attempt to link contacts, it doesn't work at all.
Also, I can't tell you how many times I had to shut down my phone because the contacts/phone app crashes and I can't hang up a call.
Contacts need an update ASAP. (So much for waiting 7 years for a great Sony phone to finally come out)

I have the same exact problem !
I am on Gmail, Facebook...
And now no more connection to my operator netwok.
After put the SIM code nothing happen.
Please help !
I finally wiped my phone and installed an update...it's working perfect now after all those issues. My phone wouldn't backup either so it was painful but worth it.
My phone still seems to have issues with contacts from time to time.
The only way i can fix it is to for stop contacts, clear the cashe. and then sync all the contacts again. After about 10 attempts i get the contacts back however after a few days have to go through the same process.
I raised the issue with Sony however havent heard anything for over a month. Not at all impressed with Sony on this one.
