I recently purchased this item and did a network update to ensure I had the lastest firmware, however BBC iPlayer does not appear on the list of Network video items. I noticed that some people had been having the same issue on the BDP-S370 so I tried one of there suggestions (reseting network information), however it still did not work. Any suggestions?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I think the only solution is to return your player to the retailer you bought it from stating it is not fit for purpose, I would think that once retailers start screaming about returns Sony might put some effort into fixing the issue. Obviously it will be too late for those that have returned their players, might also be worth posting on facebook etc warn potential purchasers via retailer reviews, maybe once sales bomb Sony will do something.
I can add to the list of people with the same problem when playing HD content on BBC iPlayer on my S380. After 15-20 seconds I get booted back to the start screen despite having a solid wired 10Mb Sky Broadband connection. SD content streams fine.
The only way to solve the problem is, as has been previously reported, to start the programme for a few seconds then fast forward some way into it, let it play for a few seconds then rewind back to somewhere as near to the start of the show and let it play from there. It then will play flawlessly to the end. I wouldn't mind this too much if it wasn't so darn difficult to stop the rewind at 20 seconds into the programme! If I rewind back to the very start it boots me back to the start screen again after 20 seconds and I have to start the process again. Very frustrating.
It does seem like it's a simple buffering issue that a firmware fix could easily solve. Does it happen on other models of Sony Blu-Ray players? Come on Sony - sort it out please!
Catmambo, when are you going to post telling us that Sony are currently working on a firmware fix for the BDP-S380 so that no customer will experience any problems with BBC iPlayer HD or Demand 5 (plus LoveFilm) irrespective of their ISP or location within the UK, and when it will be available?
I'm sure there are thousands of customers out there waiting with bated breath for just such a post!

Latest firmware (10/08/11) seems to have solved the iPlayer HD streaming problem. I've tried several HD programmes and none of them have stopped playing at any point. Good for you Sony
Demand 5 did fall over at the same point as previously though, so will see how it goes in the days ahead to see if this is still a real problem.
Same here. Last night a new firmware notification appeared - downloaded, installed, and now BBC iPlayer HD programmes do seem to play without reverting to the home screen within the first 10 seconds. Great!
I've got the latest firmware also, Iplayer HD is now ok but still having the same problem with demand 5
Just found an iPlayer HD stream that falls over each time it is played, the BBC Proms National Youth Orchestra. It stalls every time when Katie Derham is introducing some members of the group, at less than 30 seconds in. In fact my S380 locked up completely when trying to get back to the main menu and switching it off just got stuck on the "See You" message until I disconnected the power.
I tried other HD streams and they were fine, so wonder why that one stream causes such a problem?
Yes Iplayer hd seems to be working but now the menus on the iplayer screen often stick when scrolling through lists of tv progs. Well, not exactly stick but you get two highlights and the lists don't change even though it seems to be scrolling.
5 on demand seems worse and seems to jump to the next programme in the series almost immediately. Lovefilm isn't fixed either.
Since the update I've also had DVDs refusing to play and then media on a mem stick not working until I reboot.
Yes, I've had the 'double highlight' on scrolling menus. In fact the highlight seems to actually go off the bottom of the page sometimes and then I have to scroll it back up to the menu again where it catches up with itself.
Maybe the BBC's new version of iPlayer which Sony has added to the PS3 will make it to their other divices, as it is supposed to be an improvement.
New firmware seems to be working OK for me on both BBC HD iPlayer and also Demand 5. I will need to watch more programs to be absolutely sure, but this does seem to be progress and seems to confirm the issue was in the firmware.
