VGX-TP3 with Onkyo AV amp

Hi

I am running my Sony VGX-TP3 media centre through an Onkyo AV amp, using an HDMI lead. When I turn on the TV it stops the audio working through Vista Media Centre. A quick fix is to close down media centre and open it again.

Can anyone shine any light on why this is happening? When I plug the media centre straight into the TV it works fine. It does not like being run through the Onkyo TX-SR606.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

D.

Hi there, I have a Sony VGX-XL100 and an Onkyo TX-SR506. I originally ran the XL100 through the Onkyo via HDMI & S-PDIF, however I kept having problems with no picture with XL100 resuming from standby. Searching about the internet this seems to be a common HDMI handshake problem that cannot be resolved. There was some mention of higher spec Onkyo's having a firmware update to resolve this, not sure if this is possible with the 606.

In the end I just ran the HDMI direct to TV & got sound through the S-PDIF, this works fine. However should I want to run any more HDMI connections through the Onkyo this would be a hassle. :slight_frown:

Please let me know if you find any resolution to this.

Hi
Cheers for the response. It’s a shame that we spend all this money on nice amps and we can’t run our media systems through them. I had the XL-100 and had the same problem so I set it up so it was always on and would never go to sleep.

It works fine if the VGX-TP3 is plugged straight into the tv. Unfortunately my TV only has one HDMI port, so I have to use that for the Onkyo. The way I have got round the problem is to use a Harmony universal remote which is programmed to switch the tv and amp on and then close down the media centre app. You then have to press the start button to re-open media centre. It works but hardly ideal.

Hopefully Onkyo will release a firmware update soon.
