Has anyone had a hinge break on their laptop?

I have an AR41m which was purchased 2 years ago with an extended warranty. I recentky attempted to open it and something happened to the right hinge. The plstic cover now splits open as if something is pushing against it whn being opened.
I contacted Sony support by e-mail at first but after 2 weeks of no response, 3 duplicated responses asking for my details and promises of conact broken, I called and got through to someone only to be told its not covered.

I want to know if anyone else had had a hinge problem and if Siny rectified it.

....I can't either, but I have two other Vaio notebooks with broken right hand hinges. Coincidence?

No, both machines were out of warranty.

Approximately 4 years old.
