what does L1 mean on the display of my DVD player?

my DVD player is showing L1 on the display panel.  The tv will not work.  how do I make the necessary changes so that I can watch tv?

TV is KDL 32L400.  DVD is RDR DC100

have finally found the solution.  The input button on the remote needed to be pressed and held for anything to change.  all sorted.  thank you.
