Stamina mode and CPU-speed

Hi,

Does anyone know how stamina mode handles CPU-speed when activated?

On battery saving mode, whats the CPU-speed?

On balanced mode, whats the CPU-speed?

On device performance mode, whats the CPU-speed?

I would appreciate it if there was information available:)

I am buying XZ Premium on Thursday, and coming from a sluggish and overheating 810-snapdragon Z5 Compact where stamina mode makes my phone feel like a drunk toddler (everything lags), I hope the 835 snapdragon and stamina mode will make sweet music together.

Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply.

I have received some information regarding this.

Stamina mode has three levels: Battery time preferred, Balanced power saving and Device performance preferred. Enabling STAMINA mode does not downclock the CPU performance, but the CPU boost function is disabled for all three levels. If you experience any difference in the CPU performance it is because of a combination of factors that may differ from case to case.

Hi @klikknes,

I have requested some more information about this. I will let you know when I receive an answer.

From the stamina mode description I can't see any hinderance with CPU speed just Video quality and brightness.

I'm just right now running stamina mode on most battery saving level and don't feel any difference.

Also in the 2 week so far I had no overheating problems at all - on Sunday I entered a train with around 17% battery and put the charger on - I had the screen on the whole time and was quite surprised that when I arrived around 4 hours later both my phone and charger weren't even a little bit warm and also the phone was 100% charged.

(was running a kairsoft game the whole time so maybe the Snapdragon was just almost bored to dead...)

Yeah, there's no info on how stamina mode handles the CPU, only what it turns off and what we might expect from the device should we turn it on.

I'm interested in how stamina mode handles the CPU - does it throttle it down or not? If so - how much in each of the three different scenarios?

How does it handle the GPU?

Also, your experience is in direct contrast to mine - I've been giving XZ Premium a go at my local retailer and once I turn stamina mode ON, the phone definitely takes a noticeable hit in performance (I just dont know HOW much of a hit it takes). Yes, stamina mode tells us that we might experience slightly restricted scrolling, and some features such as Image Enhancement is turned off - however, the phone feels sluggish as if the CPU is throttled down, and way too much as well.

Don't get me wrong - I'm still gonna buy it this week! I've been drooling over it way too long, and I'm getting dehydrated Winking_Face

I guess I don't see what the problem is here? Stamina mode by default should only kick in when the battery reaches 15%. Of course you can set it to a different level or turn it on all the time. But why would anyone want to do this? If for some reason you need it on because you will be away from a charger for several days then it states what is adjusted for it to work. I am sure that when it activates it will limit the phones performance as designed. Ultra stamina mode will certainly make the phone very slow but the battery will last about a week or more.  :smileysmileywink:

I want information about the throttling, how much does it limit the CPU Slightly_smiling_Face That is the question at hand.

What you mention is correct, and I already know all this.

I'm interested in CPU-numbers when turning Stamina Mode on.

You can look at the core numbers with the app "CPU Z".

Okay this is interesting. No stamina: Max. 2,4 Ghz on core 5-8

With stamina (balanced mode, which is really laggy), I had 2,4 Ghz max. as well, but really most of the time it was 300 mhz on all cores.

That is interesting indeed, as Balanced Mode isnt exactly balanced - in my opinion Slightly_smiling_Face

I wish Sony could add info about each setting there, as how much it will throttle down CPU-usage. That way it would be easier to know wether or not I'll bother to use it or not.

Maybe they instead could throttle down CPU on Stamina Mode from 2.4Ghz to 1.9Ghz or 2Ghz, and let them utilize the cores in a better way than what we are seeing atm?

I'm not tech-savvy enough to do this testing myself, and that is why I am asking around Slightly_smiling_Face Thanks for the help so far guys, hope you are able to test it a bit more and see what numbers you get Slightly_smiling_Face
