Does anybody know how to turn off email alerts (sounds)?

You can't unless your mute the volume for ringtone and notifications - you could try a 3rd party app but I have no knowledge if any can do what you ask

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

You should be able to if you open the email app > press the menu button (the 3 dots in the upper right corner) > settings > tap on the email account that you wish to mute the notification for > select ringtone > scroll up and select 'none'. If you want to turn off all notification for the email account you simply unmark the 'notifcation' option.
