Difficulty waking up Z1 compact

I received my Z1 compact yesterday.

I am experiencing difficulty waking the phone up after receiving notifications/alerts and e.g. when I want to turn the display on to see what the time is.

I hit the on/off button but nothing happens. I have to repeat this several times. Sometimes the phone wakes up, most times not.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a software or hardware issue? PEBCAK? If so, please enlighten me 🙂

No offense, but I don't like that you try to make us believe that this is a general android bug. I've never read about this issue, until I started reading about Z1C. A lot of people have this bug and instead of reporting it to Sony you say that they need to restart the phone. On S2 I don't restart the phone for 900 hours and no such issue happened. However that's true that android needs reboots for better working, but this issue doesn't occur because of android, but because of Sony.

I don't own this phone yet, so I'm not complaining but so far Sony's reaction's on this and on other issues are not very nice.

I am not making you believe anything,I am saying my point. And you should also know that users install all kind of apps that they do not know about and those apps interfere with the phone and its functions. But it is just my point,no need of following it.

I had the same glitch, went away after a reboot. Have you to encounter it again.

Thanks, knew iPhone worked differently but notdays how. interestingly they do still slow down , had to clean out and reboot my wife's a few times.
But as others saying while I know rebooting the helps free ram and speed the phone up, the symptom of of locking you out the phone for 5-10s is pretty poor.
However will see if it's a 1 off or keeps reoccurring Don't think the mods have Sony on speed dial, seems to be random if they view or respond to threads?

This appears to be a known fault and has been mentioned in other posts here, with different titles (Power button problem,...).  It's mentioned in this user review: Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Review  He says that firmware updates have solved the problem.  In the meantime, I have found that holding down the On/Off button and the Volume/Up button at the same time (Hard Reset), until the phone stops beeping, releases it and allows it to be restarted normally.  You may find that data, especially on the ewxternal SDHC card has been destroyed though.

I was having the same problem two weeks ago, I was going to take it back but was going on holiday. It seemed fine whilst I was away but last night it started with the delayed responce again. This morning it was still happening, I was listening to music and then it just stopped, the touch screen became completely unresponsive then blacked out and it will not wake up again, can't even turn it off and it is on full charge. I have only had the phone for four weeks tops, this is very dissapointing. I do hope I am going to get a replacement as I send this phone off to get fixed as I have business to deal with on my phone and it's my birthday in two days - I canno't be without a phone!

This issue occurs for me while my phone is charging; generally on a secondary computer, not my home computer. Alternativley it has happened when using the magnetic charger. Very frustrating to buy new technology and find that it does nothing but cause my phone to not work. I have thought about requesitng an exchange phone but it seems to happen to all Z1 compacts. I have tried updating to KitKat and have found that this does not fix the problem. Hopefully Sony will be able to find an answer to the issue in the near future.

The only way to restore the phone that I have found is the volume up and power button reset method. Hopefully others will find that works also until the next charge or app overload.

My wife owns this phone since June and this has just happened today.  I found a quick way to shut down the phone, however, if you have the magnetic charging cable.  Connect the charging cable in reverse will shut down the phone immediately.  I think Sony designed this to protect the phone and this trick works on Z1, Z1 compact, and Z Ultra.  Once it is shut down, I can start the phone up normally.  All data, including those on external SD card, should not be affected.  I know this is not a fix for the issue but at least you can get the phone working again:smileyhappy:, until the blank screen issue strikes again.
