Unknown Device - VGN-A117S

Hi there,

I'm doing a clean install after 2 years now (so i did a format on my harddrive etc.)
I've downloaded all the stuff from the Vaio Link site like the drivers and the utils.
But now i still have a Unknown Device in my Device Manager screen. The properties of this Unknown Device show me the following:

Location: on Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC

Any1 has an idea what kind of device this is? I've allready tried all the drivers from the Vaio Link site of my model (VGN-A117S) but with no result. (Google gave no results eather).

Thnx for your quick reaction.
I tried this link (and this option) but my laptop crashes when i select the specific driver in the list (blue screen). So I think this is not the driver that this piece of hardware needs.
Could it be something like a card reader? And what driver do i need for that? (allready tried the drivers for the VGN-A117S).

And could this problem cause that my volume, brightness ans S1 buttons are not working? (allso after installing the utils). Or is this another problem.

Hi Hugo,

As far as I can tell this a WLAN device.

I assume a “clean install” means that you are not using the original Sony provided Windows OS and that the Sony provided drivers do not work?

Have a look at the properties for the device (Device Manager) – on the details tab, under ‘device instance id’ do you see PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24CC&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_03\3&61AAA01&0&F8

The Fn buttons problem is probably a separate issue – try running Utils.exe (pre-installed Utilities download from Vaio-Link)

I think its not the WLAN device because that's just working fine atm. I see the following under my Details tab:
ACPI\SNY6001\4&22DE41A2&0

And with a "clean install" i mean that i used my own English XP Pro with Service Pack 2 on it and the Original Sony Drivers.
I allready used the Utils.exe by the way. The Network Switch Utility of Sony is allso not working

ACPI\SNY6001\4&22DE41A2&0 is the device instance Id for Sony PI (Sony Programmable I/O Control).

Most models have a driver for this in the pre-installed driver folder, but for some reason the A1 series is missing this. You could try downloading the drivers for the A2 series and see whether you can update the driver using the Sony PI driver from that.

THNX for all your help but it's working now.
Allso the function keys are all working now.

It was because I was using a stripped version of Windows Pro + SP2. A very bad OS for a Notebook I suppose.
