USB to Serial

I recently purchased my VGN-SZ2VP/X laptop and I'm trying to find a USB to Serial device which will work with it. The two I have already only display the output from the com port. They won't allow me to send commands back to the device at the other end.

Any ideas on configuration or a product that works would be great.
