A couple of things, if thats ok. Firstly my lad spilled a drop of coffee on the keyboard and now the d key is stuck, I have looked very hard but cannot see how the keyboard comes out. I have removed all the arrowed screws and the bottom of the keyboard is liftable but obviously still attached somewhere.
Secondly the cd drive is no good so can I change it for aa dvd writer or similar? Thanks
Hi James and welcome to the forum.
This link should be of help to you - once opened click on English at the top of the page.
You can certainly fit any slimline drive but changing over the faceplate may prove difficult unless the new drive is from the same manufacturer and model range.
Rich, that is fantastic thank you. I will try the procedure later today and let you know how I get on. Thanks
Got the keyboard off quite easily in the end, thanks. But, there is always a but! is it possible to strip down the keyboard to clean or is it just to be replaced?
I’m pleased that the link was of help James. Stripping down the keyboard is not possible as far as I know, but you can unclip the individual keys by pressing down the adjoining left hand key and then apply upward pressure on the left side of the key in question.
There is a danger that you may damage the frail plastic connectors that hold the key in place but I have yet to have a problem when a key has become detached when cleaning the keyboard.
If all does go belly up
Nexttronics supply replacement keyboards.
Rich, I have searched that site but can find no reference to the PCG FR105, Is there an alternative PCG no.? Cheers!
This is a US site and unfortunately they do not list all European models.
As far as I can tell all of the FR series use the same keyboard and the part number for the UK keyboard is 1-478-086-31. For some reason the link to order this part is not working. I suggest that you send Nexttronics an email to obtain confirmation that this part is compatible with your model.
This is the link to the page for a similar FR series model.
