My Start button keeps on disappearing!

Every so often, usually when I am using the internet, I get a message telling me there was an error of some sort. I close the message and then find my start button is either missing or the icons to the right end of the start panel are missing. What can I do to stop/fix this!!

If this "Error" keeps recurring there may be an underlying problem - possible virus?

If 'stuff' is disappearing off the Task Bar try right-clicking the desktop and select [Refresh].

Sounds to me like some kind of malware.
The error message would be handy though.
