InterVideo WinDVD BD for VAIO

Hi,
I have a Sony VAIO VGN-AR51M and it plays most bluray dvds. When i load up WinDVD BD it comes up with the message 'The AACS Key has expired. You may not be able to play back some titles. Press "Yes" to update.' If i press yes it signs me into to correl and comes up with an error message saying 'Error Code: R03-Explanation:Cannot find matching AACS Key or patch.' If i press no to the update it lets me play most movies such as 'BLACK HAWK DOWN' AND '300' but wont let me play a new dvd (Green street 2) and says 'WinDVD stops plaback because of AACS error check' and goes to a blank screen. I have downloaded all available updates from Sony.
Please can anyone help? Greatly appreciated.
Please can nobody tell me to by other software.Thank you.

I was wondering whether because i didn't have this update ('WinDVD BD 8.0 - 8.0.9.670_2 07/01/2009 56.56 MB (EP0000171783)), whether this could be the reason?

Is there a way of putting it back to originally installed status just for this software so i can try applying all the updates in oreder?

Thanks for your help, Mark.

One thing should be evident - you will not get any news from Sony over a Bank Holiday weekend - so there is no point in repeatedly asking the same question. As soon as there is any news, I am sure you will be informed.

All we can do is wait for Sony but to be honest I am no longer sure where we are on this and now I suspect the solution is going to take some time.

You have the latest Sony update installed (WinDVD BD Update -8.0.9.754) and another is not due until July.

The problem is with the updated AACS Keys. Every time someone hacks the BD 'code' the AACS Keys are changed for new Blu-Ray Movies to prevent piracy. I believe WinDVD8 has been 'hacked' in the past.

I am guessing - and it is only a guess - that the Blu-Ray player software companies like Corel are no longer prepared to automatically update the AACS Keys for older software versions indefinitely without an upgrade to the software particularly the original software is vulnerable to hacking.

If you Google you will see that this problem is being discussed on the Asus, Dell, HP & Toshiba chat sites also.

I guess it is 'who pays' is the subject of discussions between Sony HO and Corel HO. In the end it may be us - other third party software is not upgraded indefinitely after all.

All we can do is to wait for an outcome. The only way to play these titles now is to purchase a commercial version of WinDVD 9 BD or PowerDVD Ultra.

I hope I'm wrong and everything gets sorted next week - but I have an uneasy feeling about it.

Hello,

The problem of updating the AACS-key was solved for my notebook (VGN-AR51M)
with the Sony-Update "WinDVD BD -8.0 - 8.0.9.670_2" form 07/01/2009  .

I had similar problems like Mark: The InterVideo WinDVD BD player asked me
to update the AACS key in order to play a new BlueRay-Disc.
I added Corel to the trusted sites and got to the download-page. It said
that the download was going to start soon, but nothing happened.

With the update of the WinDVD-Software to "WinDVD BD -8.0 - 8.0.9.670_2"
the download of the key was successful and I can now watch BDs again.

Hope everybody else can also watch BlueRays again with this update ...

Have fun,
midnight

Hi midnight,

Thanks for your comment

Yeah i have the VGN-AR51M and this is the update it is telling me i need but says it can't apply to my version or something along those lines. So is there anyway of applying this update after i have applied the latest one from the Sony email this past couple of weeks

Thanks for your help, Mark.
