First time notebook and Vaio owener

Hi i'm Michael and two weeks ago I purchased a Vaio VGN-FS415E. The Notebook came with 512mb of ram, although on control pannel > system it appears to be 502mb of ram. I would like to increase my ram, perhaps to 1024. Can sombody please give me adivce and tips on this procedure, stating the best brand, places to buy, price and how I go about installing the new sticks of ram. Any help will be warmly recieved.

Thanks!

Hi Michael and welcome to Club Vaio.

For memory upgrades I suggest that you have a look at Crucial.com – reasonable prices and great support.

For a guide to the procedure have a look
Here.

If you have any problems or further questions then don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks rich for that information Rich.

There is one other thing. I think may Viao has two hard drives, (C) and (D). At the moment only (C) is being used. When (C) is full will is begin using (D) or is it a case of me using it as and when I want it ? I hope that does not sound too confusing.

Thanks

Unfortunately there is no auto intelligent system that will automatically start using the D drive once the C drive is full – it requires you to make some changes….

Possibly the easiest way of freeing up space on your C drive is to move the My Documents Folder to the D drive.

To do this right click My Documents, either on your desktop or in Windows Explorer, and select properties. Then on the Target tab click move and select your D drive and a location of D:\My Documents.

There is a possibility that you may need to reinstate the target for some shortcuts after relocating this folder but if you have problems then let us know.

Put your documents, music and pictures on D and leave C for programs and Windows itself
