dvd driver problem PLEASE HELP

Hi guys please could sombody guide me in the right direction as i am not entirely good with computers.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N38E and the dvd drive stopped working one day. i have only used the drive 3-4 times since new and it has never behaved this way before, each time i put in a disk (DVD/CD/BLANK OR RECORDED) it makes a vibrating noise twice before it sounds like it is loading and then it makes a noise like the disk is getting stuck. i cannot find anything wrong in the device manager and have uninstalled and re installed the drivers too.

Do i need a new drive?

Any help would be appreciated

thank you

billy

Hi Billy,

If there are no warnings in Device Manager then it is likely to be a hardware or firmware provlem. Does the drive recognise a bootable disc like the Vaio Recovery Disc or a Windows Installation Disc?

I'm not sure what drive you have installed but there is an update for the SuperMulti Drive Firmware UJ-850U here: -
