connecting DAV-DZ280 and KD-49X8505B

Hi I have had an LCD 4k tv KD-49X8505B for a while and decided i wanted surround sound so i went out and bought a 2nd hand home theatre (HT for short) unit DAV-DZ280

I connected them via the HDMI on the HT to the HDMI 1 (ARC) on the tv

and also the scart lead.

I can hear sound if the tv is set to tv and the HT is set to TV also

however if i try to watch my TV box which is plugged into HDMI 3 i get no sound through the HT

and i also stream via wifi from my laptop to the tv using the bravia wifi feature (which is great)

however i get no sound coming through the HT

is there a setting i've missed somewhere?

or is it just too old to actually do what i want?

Have you tried to disconnect the TV and all external devices connected to it from the mains for a few minutes or tried a different HDMI cable for example?
