Codec Compatibility

I am new to this forum and my question will probably reveal my lack of technical knowledge. I have a KDL-46HX903 Bravia. It is wirelessly linked to my home network and I am using Windows Media Player (WMP) v11.0.6002.18311 to serve photos and videos to the TV. I am creating videos for WMP to serve via WinxDVDRipper Platinum v6.3.5. I am converting to audio format AC3 2CH and video format MPEG2. Some of the videos produced can be seen and played by the TV but some do not appear in the folders on the TV. Those that do appear are clearly identified as MPEG2 even though Sony state that the MPEG codec is the only one supported. Does anybody know why some of my videos are not being recognised by the TV?

WMP is pretty bad at transcoding - try switching to our recommended software Serviio or maybe PS3 Media Server. Both are far better.

Thanks

Thank you - Serviio seems to fix the problem

Agree that WMP is terrible for streaming.  Personally, I use Mezzmo.  Its not free but it works great with my Bravia.
