Some apps not working with 3G after upgrading to ICS

I have updated my Xperia active to ICS, and the apps are working fine on wifi but when is switch to 3G some of the apps (gmail and twitter) stop connecting to the internet. I don’t want to have to reset the phone or repair it through PC companion in order not to lose all my data.  Does anybody have a solution?

Thank you

I know you say you have not changed the APN's, however in some cases the networks push WAP settings through and this can cause this issue. Please do check this.

Main Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > You may need to check with your current network provider

like the data connection is lost? or just idle? are you using wcdma only mode on network?

Not applicable

No the connection is not lost, in fact some apps are still connected (whatsapp and opera) while others are not (gmail and twitter).  I am in wcdma/gsm mode.
