Dear Sony Community,
Recently I have bought a head unit type DSX-GS80. The reason why I chose this product because - according to the user manual, which is available through the Sony website - it is capable to drive a subwoofer directly. According to the user manual, I installed the new head unit to the car. I looked at the menu options but I sadly saw that in the [GENERAL] group, there is no [SPEAKER LOAD] option, so I can't set the speaker load to 2 ohms. (Operating Instrucions page 14) In the Menu, there is no [SUBW MODE] and [SUBW DIRECT] options, so I cant do the settings listed in the Operating Instrucions page 14. My subwoofer has a double voice coiled type speaker, which has 2 ohms of impedance of each coil.
My questions are:
- Is my subwoofer compatible with the DSX-GS80 in 2x2 ohms configuration? (I can imagine that it is compatible in 1x4 ohm configuration, but I would like to use it in 2x2 ohms setup because of the higher output power).
- How to setup the head unit to drive the subwoofer directly? (My guess is the Rear Bass Enhanche option)
- Do I have to update the firmware of the head unit? If I have to, where can I find the correct firmware file and how to update it?
- Do the DSX-GS80 have an overload protection?
I hope that Sony Community members would answer my question soon!
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
József Orgován

- In the case of the 2x2 ohm Subwoofer, connecting the two coils in Parallel would obtain an impedance of 1 ohm, while connecting them in Series would provide an impedance of 4 ohm.
- In the case of the 1x4 ohm Subwoofer, you will only have one impedance option, which is 4 ohm.
DSX-GS80 cannot handle 1 ohm impedance.

Hello,
Thanks for your answer.
My sub has 2 coils, 2 ohms each. I would like to use it as one coil would be connected to the rear left channel, and the other coil would be connected to the rear right channel. If I set the output impedance to 2 ohms, will it be OK?
The front speakers has 3 ohms impedance.
Thank you!
