2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Thank you for your continued efforts.

This is not whiingeing  but:

Aldi recently had a 4K TV on sale for £299, for the functionality it provided and the way I'm having to use our 55X8509, I could have saved us a thousand pounds with that TV and an Amazon TV stick for Netflix.

I need some absolute assurance from Sony that either the issues WILL be fixed, or that compensation will be forthcoming. Personally, I'd prefer that the Sony TV worked as advertised rather than have to buy another make.

We're now in a position where many of us have had this TV for months, and our initial investment is significantly devalued by the continuing faults and the dramatic reductions in price over the months.

This is not a fair way for Sony to do business.

I agree on the devaluation which is very disappointing because it's my hard earned cash and I invest in good products to last- I have never bought cheap and it's just on this occasion I may have invested too much too early.

My only pressure on Sony is via this forum if indeed they do read it may see my name appear up now and again however this is one way. I get nothing back.

I have been down the customer service telephone route but the technical issues unfortunately do not have answers currently so it's not worth Persuing it based on my time involved on my part.

I am keen to help and offered on all tech issues I did follow up giving accurate information but over half a year later I'm just looking for a More info and honesty  from Sony. A response on your locked issues would be good update.

Whinging is probably the wrong word - I have not been corrupted by PR spokesmanship.... Yet.  so i write in my own tongue!  But hopefully you get what i mean thought.

Cheap Vestel TVs are not worth the money...  Seriously.

Will Sony fix these issues - i believe so.  Sony is committed to the Android platforum and have spent a lot of time and money in doing so.  So i am confident that these will be fixed.  The issue is WHEN.  Im in the dark just like you on this.   I was once told that if you lack patience, Sony can teach you this.

I fully understand that a TV - especially the large 4K ones is an investment in itself - I havent got one - I cant afford one.  And so when it doesnt do as promised, i do understand the disappointment.  This is also damaging the Sony brand name itself.

Compensation is rarely given by Sony.  My advice is if you are absolutely not happy - speak to your retailer in regards to a refund or exchange.  After all, it is you - as a customer thst needs to be happy.

I bought a KDL-43W808C set this summer and was still searching how to use the recording function as mentioned in the specification. I've been searching the internet to find THAT software update to activate the recording functionaliy, but after few sleepless nights, I gave up.

My TV is suffering from freezing at startup, every day I have to cold boot it, by disconnecting the power or by being very very patient and pressing the powerbutton on the remote. Once it is cold booted, it's working fine, although switching channels is very slow... I'm using satellite dish and CI+ module.

And ofcourse, I'm still missing the recording feature.

I always was a big fan of SONY, I don't understand how it is possible that Sony can sell TVs with features that are not working... they even put a Record button on the remote control...

Well Quinnicus they did not publish my revised review again... I took out the cost of the 3D glasses as they suggested and it still was not allowed

What is it with Sony?

Do they just want me to say it a rubbish TV and no more as thats what I will do to all the video and TV magazines.

I'm not bothering to try again but am getting in touch with the advertising standards people to get clarification on picking and choosing reviews to make a product look good when actually it's full of faults!

Qunnicus maybe you could find out why they refused again and get a copy of it as for some reason I lost my second review.

Thanks from a rather sick and tired and sadly a Sony customer and the word customer is the most important part... can you read that Sony?

If you try YouTube, want happens - error messages?

Try the following

  1. Switch TV off from the wall
  2. Reboot router
  3. Once done, switch tv on again and test.

If that fails, can you try an ethernet cable as a test?
