I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
If Sony’s future line TV’s are based on Android, they should focus on solving existing issues rather than releasing new models each year. I am also a big fan of Sony, but I did not volunteer as a beta tester nor was the product given for free. Some people are willing (or “sacrifice”) to spend extra money in order to be confident that their product of choice is as described and of course qualified for mass production. I believe that Sony should at least reassure customers who purchased a 2015 Android TV, that all issues will be soon be ironed or in case of new models coming out next year, their set will be replaced for free. The way I see it, this is the only way a compensation makes sense and prove that Sony respects its customers.
I got 5.1 from plex by enabling pass through in settings and setting bitrate to original. Then select the 5.1 audio track in the video itself.
If Sony respected its customers it would not have allowed a half finished product onto the market, imagine if Sony software developers wrote the code for Airbus planes they would all be crashing just like our TV's are doing!
It would also not help Sony as they keep refusing to accept a true account and review of its products even after actually asking me to do so, whats wrong with the truth Sony?
I feel we are being given lip service and they will dump this range as soon as they can and leave us the "Customers" to suffer with unfinished products that are totally and utterly not able to do the things that they were said to be able to do.
I just think that its unfair and probably borders on false advertising that you buy a Sony TV expecting it to work and do what is says it can do, then find it cant do it or does but causes sets to have to be rebooted etc... to make them work?
Sadly due to the delays in implementing the updates, customers will have problems taking it back to the retailer as its outside the return period e.g. Currys (30 days) as the customers have waited patiently for an update that managed to make thing actually worse and brought nothing but more trouble and then say we have to wait to up to the 24th Dec to get another update which if experience is to go buy will leave many of us watching a blank screen over the Christmas period, bet your support staff wont be working!
I agree that these sets should be replaced with ones that do work "Free of charge" with the duff sets being returned to the manufacturer at their cost too.
Sony... Why dont you ever come on here to explain yourselves and let us feel that you do care and give us some hope, by never replying it leaves us feeling like you really dont care... well you will have to care if this gets out to the press.
There are now so many unhappy people that I am sad to say I for one will NEVER buy a Sony product again if this is how you treat your customers.
I thought I bought a "Premium Brand" product, but now I see I have bought a product that is now like Sony is as company, going downhill fast without anyway to climb back up.
What is it that you dont understand about customer service?
That’s absolutely TRUE. SOnY REPLY HERE pleaseeee, if you do really care, I definitely will buy other brand TV in Christmas offers as i still have time to return in Amazon. Poor retailers also suffering I think. As aditay mentioned so many are out of 30days period that’s very bad and sad.
I wrote an email to Sony yesterday asking an answer to my issues like rebooting and some services stop error messages etc. I emailed via customer contact page. I don’t think they will come back soon.. And I can wait to 24th, if no luck I will return.
My assumption is Its not that easy to fixes. There is a lof of bugs in many cases, I mean they cant test everything like users do.. Errors may encounter in very rare cases. This is one of the reasons Samsung stick to Tizen OS. And LG webOS normally chines companies will refer Android as its free and readily available.
Note: this is my second TV as Amazon already replaced one. They said this time they can’t replace but can do refund.
My model: Sony KD-55X8005C 55-Inch 4K UHD
SONY PLEASE REPLY at least once here in this post if you really care.
Does any one know how this mater can pass to media? Or any news channels?
This thread is too long for sony or anyone to follow, we need to make new threads for individual models so it will beasy to classify. Can someone can do ? i dont really know as i am new here..
This thread is so long as there are so many dissspointed "Customers" and so many problems with these sets...
I really cant understand how they cant get it right... who are they employing at Sony is my question? If it were my company they would not be employed for long if they keep making mistakes like this.
What is going on Sony, please reply?
Also please can you give me a way to contact the Sony CEO or whoever you head man is please?
I really think your employees are letting the company down big time
Thank you...
