I had mine replaced under warranty (business contract) yesterday and disabled all updates and only installed the as apps which I really need and it's working fast and perfectly. So good to be back to Android 6 after using my Note 2 with android 4 for a few days.
I've gone into developer mode and I can confirm the touch points go right to the bottom of the screen.
Just before i sent it back even glove mode started to struggle all over the screen so enough was enough.
One thing that caught my eye was Facebook messenger which Facebook forces you to install to be able to message people. It allows the little icon on your home page to move around anywhere. Perhaps some update to this has caused a conflict or corrupted something previously?
Either way, I'm not installing any updates now!!!
Not sure about Messenger having anything to do with this, as I haven't installed messenger in the longest time and issue still happened to me, in other words, I still have the problem without installing messenger.

My whole screen is pretty useless by now (started with top part, followed by middle left, then back button), as only a small part of it is responsive.
I used to do fine just with the shake notification app, but now I can't use my screen, I'm using a USB OTG cable (micro usb male to usb female) to attach a mouse, or you may use a wireless or a bluetooth mouse. Only when you're outside you really can't use a mouse on your phone can you.
Good day, my name is Carmen
My Xperia Z3 Compact has developed a fault. It has not been near liquid and it has not been dropped. This is the second major fault. One and a half years ago I had a battle (via Consumer council) to have my brand new phone replaced due to an audio problem with calls. It was replaced however, so this instrument is only one and a half years old. Suddenly, the notifications will not drag down and the back and home functions no longer operate. I have to restart my phone to change from one app to another. Clearly the phone is rendered inoperable. I am unable to upgrade my cellular contract with my provider until April. What do you suggest I do please?
Hi My z3 compact .. no issues for 2 years since Ive had the phone. I Stopped using the device After I upgraded to a new device. Yesterday I switched the phone on [ prior to the last switch off , the device was reset to factory defaults ] and below is what happened.
•Phone turned on fine, everything working as normal.
•Phone connected to my wifi network
•OTA update identified, downloaded and prompted for update.
•Device Updated
•After the reboot and android upgrade, the notification area and home button touch screen area not functional. Area in-between working fine.
•Attempted a software repair via xperia companion, went through successfully however issue still persists.
•As phone is now at the setup wizard, I am unable to go any further as the 'next' option is in the effected zone of the touchscreen
•The phone was provided by Vodafone UK, however has been officially made sim free after obtaining the unlock code from Vodafone UK.
The worst bit of this whole scenario is that after checking the phone I would have been on my way to sell this phone to computer exchange [ uk.webuy.com ]
Sony must take ownership of this issue and provide a resolution.
I have been facing the same problem for several months now. The problem has increased beyond the point of tolerance now.
Besides the top and bottom 1 cm non-responsive areas, a few mm above the bottom buttons area also no longer respond to touch. From last week, several spots in the main area of the screen have become unresponsive!
I have done the whole thing - software repair, factory reset....and am now stuck with a new problem -
One particular screen, during setup, does not rotate. And the NEXT button appears int he unresponsive area. So, now, I have a completely useless phone, factory reset, software repaired, that will not progress past the setup screen!
The phone has never been dropped or had water/liquids anywhere near it!
HELP!!!!!!
