Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

I left my phone unused for about a month, switched off with 70-80% battery. It was working before, but now the soft buttons are not working anymore, also swiping down from the top is not working properly.

No updates have been installed in the meanwhile, this looks like a touch calibration problem or a hardware failure.

Tried guest account and tried Nova Launcher. Neither worked and the Nova Launcher left my phone in a loop failing to launch the set-up wizard. In the end I had to factory reset my xperia z5 compact. It seems to be working OK now.

Did you mean after factory reset your Z5 compact doesn't have any more problems? (Touchscreen is working as good as new?)

Still, it is a relatively new phone (4 months) to be having problems already.

How did it get the same problem as everybody here, when we've used our phones all the time? You didn't use yours and still got the same problem.

How does the hardware even start to fail, somebody please explain

Last time I left this phone unused, the back glass cracked.:smileyangry:

This was my first and last Android and Sony phone.

I wouldn't judge Android phones by your experience with Sony. It is worthwhile checking out other brands if your experience with Sony hasn't been good.

That's the value of Android. It brings in the spirit of competition.

I received an answer from Sony Support Center. As expected, they are offering to check the phone and create an estimate of repair costs for 30€. This will not happen.

It is very sad that Sony takes no responsibility for this.

I know the return to sony for repair under warranty is a good option

but not for me as I have to pay to send and receive it from uk (and I am not in the uk I moved away)

But knowing the problem will come back eventually as the hardware is the problem according to sony

I do not want another z3 compact I want another model phone as this one has failed under warranty

but then you read here it happens to z2, z3, z3 compact, Z5 - all sony need to do is rewrite the GUI to behave as it does in the lock screen - then at least the phone will be usable

My iPhone 5 has been repaired at no costs by Apple after warranty. The defective Standby button and battery problem was a widespread quality problem they took responsibility for.

The Sony touch screen problem seems to be similar widespread. All they can do after 2 months expired warranty is offering an expensive repair, and maybe the problem will reoccur after some time. They do not care for customer satisfaction.

you can even use the buttons on the lock screen if you tap some millimeters above them and swipe. It is more tolerant because there is no other controllable content on the screen. This cannot work in the GUI.

I think it is a driver or calibration problem. In touchscreen system tests, I cannot reach the bottom and top centre of the screen.

Indeed. I read on another forum that someone rooted their phone and installed something called 'Gravity Box'

and changed the status bar from 100px to 110px (they made it a bit thicker) and it works fine for now

that combined with glove mode should make it work ok for the rest of its useful life - but doubt buying a sony again

Remember when Apple sent everyone a new Ipod nano 6th generation because of a faulty batch of an older model?

I found this app very useful  - it activates the status bar by just tilting/flicking the phone a bit:

its called 'Status Bar Shake Opener'
