WhatsApp badge counter

Hi people,

I bought myself a XZs  with Android 7.1.1 yesterday.

I installed all the (old) apps which i had on my Z2 and now i see that WhatsApp doesn't have a counter on the badge. Facebook, Instagram etc works amazing, but only whatsapp doesn't get a counter when there are new messages. I have to open the app constantly to check if there are new messages.

Is there a option to get the counter back, without installing other launcher apps and things like that.

Would be amazing!

@uliwooly That answer is incorrect. The xperia home app supports badges on WhatsApp, I can see it on other xperia devices like the xperia x. It's simply not working on my xzs.
