4k hdr phone. Is it overkill?
This is going to be an expensive phone, I'm guessing around $850
@viridis
Is that a drone?
Oh nice
No OIS, but the new ultra fast sensor works amazingly with steadyshot
60FPS for 1080
No FM rAdio
The processor is not the component that takes most of the battery life.
The component that is taking most battery is the screen. Here no difference: 5.5" 4K screen (+ HDR) will be taking a lot of battery, considering processor will take a little less, and maybe the screen also a little less then no matter the battery is smaller, overall it should work about same time as previous Z5 Premium device.
This is actually a reason why I decided to skip this device. Instead of improvement and increase of battery capacity Sony decided to cut the costs here and provide us smaller unit. I was expecting an improvement here, or at least same battery size, however we have a step back in terms of capacity.
Very bad move, I miss the Z2 and Z3 times when Sony was best in battery life. These times are unfortunately gone. Sony decided to save the money by cutting the battery, so I decided to save my moeny too. I vote NO with my wallet.
Also:
- no RADIO
- no OIS
- plastic frames
- huge bezels, considering the size of the device the screen should be bigger, or at least the battery should be much bigger as they have a lot of space due to these bezels. In this size screen should be 5.7".
It is a good phone, but I was expecting more.
Maybe next time.
There is a need of longer battery life.
Z5 Premium was working too short, hence was expecting improvement from Sony.
It turned out that we will not benefit from improvemens made by other manufacturers that create components (like Qualcomm), because Sony instead of providing improvement for battery too, decided to provide us with step back, cut the costs and include smaller battery. Hence battery life will be same. No improvement here...
Thanks Sony!
There's more to battery life than just the size.

The Snapdragon 835 is 50% more power effeicient than the 821. The XZ Premium battery will last longer than the Z5 Premium
I totally agree with you!
For the bezels, I can get over, but I don't accept the plastic lateral frame, the little battery, the cut also of a more services (like TV & SideView, Xperia keyboard, Sony SMS app, FM radio) and the focusing only on the video recording and leave back the photo shots. The most users use the phone principally to taking photos and secondary to acquire videos, statistically. I can't accept that devices which cost half taking better photos than this one that cost €700 (minimum)!
Very disappointed, I skip and wait Nokia and to see, eventually, the improvements at IFA 2017 of Sony.
Qnovo is a technology to protect the battery from getting worse in time due to charging cycles.
It has nothing to do with every day use times, I mean SOT is not longer because of this technology, you misunderstood.
Qnovo just helps your battery to survive more charging sycles...
Besides, indeed battery capacity (mAh) has an impact on how long it will work while in use.
Decreasing this number will definitely NOT increase the time of the phone being unplugged to the charger, it's the opposite...
