"Audio has stopped working" Error Message

Hello, 

Yesterday my phone displayed the message - "Audio has stopped working" when I turned it on. I went into the Sound settings and selected Audio Settings only for the menu to revert back to the previous screen with the meesage "Audio settings keep stopping" and the only option to close the app. 

Has anyone else had this issue? If so what fixes did you try? 

I know this isnt due to the software update as updated after the mesage appeared - I have had issues with sound before on Sony but that mainly relates to the headphone jack not registering the headphones have been taken out. 

So far I have tried : 

Update Software

Boot in Safe mode 

Factory Reset 

It is looking like a hardware problem but am reluctant to be without a phone as I use it for business,
