I understand that this is a support forum and visitors are most likely sharing their issues here but looking at the threads I get the feeling that the device is underrated by many.
This is not an initial impression thread but a final thought after 4 days of extensive testing from someone who's been on XDA dev. since 2003 ( ex-moderator and experienced [was] in reverse engineering )
I mentioned before that I still miss my Z5P in some other thread as it packed more feature etc.. but to sum it up :
- Sony did a great job with the design and build quality. The chrome version is stunning. Very elegant a classy and yes it might be dated for some but that's the brand signature. Just like Apple and iPhones and I love it.
- The screen quality whether it's a 4K or not is simply jaw-dropping. I can't get enough of it and I can say it's the best I've seen to-date.
- Very fast, responsive, light and fluid OS. No glitch, crashing apps or hardware issues ( knocking on wood )
- Battery life is good. 230-300 mAh power consumption with screen on at medium brightness and device idle. Full charge at 8 AM and the device still has 32% at 11 PM with moderate to high usage
- QC 3.0 is fairly faster than the 2.0 but I wasn't blown up.
- Device is cool most of the time. Gets a bit warm when shooting in 4K or playing intensive games but I can say with confidence that with all the speed it's providing, it's impressive.
- Not a single scratch yet from keys or sharp objects around but it's slippy, I mean very slippy.
- Audio output from headphone jack is class leading ( Using it on JH Siren Layla )
- Bezels. Yes I like bezels. I can't tolerate accidental screen touchs and trust me that was a nightmare on Samsung devices.
Areas to improve :
- Incall volume is low in a crowded environment. Waterproof or not, it's low
- Camera output needs polishing. Distortion isn't a deal breaker for me but it might be for some. Although most devices have it, on the XZP it's prominent
- Wireless performance isn't the best. Shorter range compared to Z5P
- Give option to uninstall junk apps.
- Hybrid SD card slot is a move backward.
-FM radio could have been a nice feature to keep.
- Development Development DEVELOPMENT !!
Verdict: It's a great device with a lot of potential.that needs a better and faster software development. With that being said, I'm pretty sure that most of the annoyances listed above can/should be solved with a major firmware update.
Apps work fine but Crashs happen every couple of days (not a single one since I reported it here so that might fix it :D)
Can a moderator move all crash related stuff here: /t5/Xperia-XZ-Premium/Reaccuring-system-incidents-crashs-restart/m-p/1237666#M2758
it's my third day with the phone and I have to say, I'm very impressed with it. the battery got me through the day with 7 h 40 m screen on time yesterday on a mix of WiFi and mobile data with 4% left at 11 pm, and that's with using Snapchat (which is known for being a battery drainer). I'm also not having any issues with the speaker volume so far, the phone is loud enough for me, both during a call and when playing music or watching videos. I can't comment on camera quality as I haven't used it much (although there is some distortion that other people were complaining about visible). also the performance is fantastic, Firefox (my browser of choice) launches almost instantly
I'm very satisfied to my XZ Premium. So far It has 100% flawless function. No problems with wi-fi, BT or any other communication feature, no crashes at any application. At this point, it has almost 170 hours continuous run without restart, no problems at all. Usually i'm use to reboot my phone every 2 weeks.
Compared to my previous Z3+, XZP has huge difference almost any feature. For me most valued features are processing speed, display, battery stamina and overall build quality. Of course, using habits and apps has effect to stability. Unstable applications may force restart. And finally, i think XZP is good looking phone.
Just picked mine up, and I love it so far, seems like a solid phone - good build quality, fast, and the display is gorgeous. I like the bezels to be honest with everything looking the same nowadays its refreshing. I do wish it had tap to wake, I hate using the power button every single time I want to wake the screen. I did get a bundle deal with the MDR-1000X that was discounted by 200 dollars, which was a steal as they sound incredible. I do a lot of travelling and I'm looking forward to my trip with some music next week!
I'll post more impressions I Just picked up my device, its sitting on the charger right now.
