I understand that this is a support forum and visitors are most likely sharing their issues here but looking at the threads I get the feeling that the device is underrated by many.
This is not an initial impression thread but a final thought after 4 days of extensive testing from someone who's been on XDA dev. since 2003 ( ex-moderator and experienced [was] in reverse engineering )
I mentioned before that I still miss my Z5P in some other thread as it packed more feature etc.. but to sum it up :
- Sony did a great job with the design and build quality. The chrome version is stunning. Very elegant a classy and yes it might be dated for some but that's the brand signature. Just like Apple and iPhones and I love it.
- The screen quality whether it's a 4K or not is simply jaw-dropping. I can't get enough of it and I can say it's the best I've seen to-date.
- Very fast, responsive, light and fluid OS. No glitch, crashing apps or hardware issues ( knocking on wood )
- Battery life is good. 230-300 mAh power consumption with screen on at medium brightness and device idle. Full charge at 8 AM and the device still has 32% at 11 PM with moderate to high usage
- QC 3.0 is fairly faster than the 2.0 but I wasn't blown up.
- Device is cool most of the time. Gets a bit warm when shooting in 4K or playing intensive games but I can say with confidence that with all the speed it's providing, it's impressive.
- Not a single scratch yet from keys or sharp objects around but it's slippy, I mean very slippy.
- Audio output from headphone jack is class leading ( Using it on JH Siren Layla )
- Bezels. Yes I like bezels. I can't tolerate accidental screen touchs and trust me that was a nightmare on Samsung devices.
Areas to improve :
- Incall volume is low in a crowded environment. Waterproof or not, it's low
- Camera output needs polishing. Distortion isn't a deal breaker for me but it might be for some. Although most devices have it, on the XZP it's prominent
- Wireless performance isn't the best. Shorter range compared to Z5P
- Give option to uninstall junk apps.
- Hybrid SD card slot is a move backward.
-FM radio could have been a nice feature to keep.
- Development Development DEVELOPMENT !!
Verdict: It's a great device with a lot of potential.that needs a better and faster software development. With that being said, I'm pretty sure that most of the annoyances listed above can/should be solved with a major firmware update.
Sums up about my expiriences so far. 👍🏻
(just mine crashes every couple of days
Mine too,
Loving XZ Premium.
When I moved from z5p there was always something "missing" from following handsets, xzp definitely fills the missing feeling. Great device.
What crashes exactly ? you mean random reboots or app crash ?
I know that many people want to be able to leave their phone running days on end and expect everything to continue working properly. Well, at this point in time it just does not work! It took microsoft over 20 years to reach a point where a server can remain running for weeks on end without a reboot, and even then there are times that some servers need to reboot once a week or more. Nature of the beast.
Android is only about half as old and with all the changes in the OS from year to year along with so many different phones on the market it just is not going to happen yet.
So my advice is to at least do a restart of the phone once a day. Especially if you leave it turned on 24/7 it still needs a reboot/restart. I have experienced, through the use of too many phones to recount, that by doing this it will alleviate many strange glitchy issues. YMMV
Random reboots when unlocking or staring the camera app today it's the first time it run stable for 4 days.
Rebooting a phone once a day was not even a real thing with android 2 most Android devices run about 2 week straight without issues and iOS about a month in my personal experience.
Weird I haven't had a single OS crash since day one. Whatsapp crashed oncebut probably due to change in screen density.
Can you check if your issue is caused by an app installed ? download aLogcat from Google store and make sure you have an SD card in your device inserted as crash log is deleted upon reboot so an SD card is essential.
Try and share results.
Thank you for saying that, thats exactly the point. Sony made a phone which has no real flaws and has definatly some keyfeatures which are appealing even for me as an Apple Fanboy and Designer myself. But I think they know what they do with Hardware now, time to jump over to Software and get the hands dirty.
Yes I agree with all your positive comments except headphone audio volume, & 1 or 2 other issues.
I have Sennheiser headphones & the max volume is disappointing, so disappointing I don't use this phone for listening to music. I was lead to believe that this phone has better audio quality than iPhone or HTC, but I still resort to using my wife's iPhone for music!
Your right, it is very slippery, too slippery. Mine has already fell on the ground 3 times & marked as a result 😞 I placed it on what I believed to be flat surfaces & it was like sitting ice on ice!
Also, its nearly impossible to keep clean,my fingerprints always appear on the screen & I can't use the pattern lock feature because it's easy to the see the pattern marked on the screen!
My previous posts about this phone ended in me being temporarily banned from this forum, I hope this isn't the case again this time, I'm just telling it how it is!
Well lucky me my IEM sensitivity and impedance is helping with low volume as they sound louder than other earbuds / earphones.
BTW, i never praised the volume, just saying that the output quality is respectable.
