Ok so I've been a Sony fan since ever but ever since they introduced the Nougat the dialer became very unreliable. I tried with Note 5 under Nougat and they don't have this issue. Let me elaborate...
Whenever I receive or make a call that is NOT in my contacts, I should be able to find it in the suggestion list when attempting to dial a number...
Say you received a call from DHL etc.. and the number is +43-412-41245000.... with previous Xperia devices it was enough to press 0000 ( or any part of the number you remember ) to get it in the suggestion list. Now it only displays if it's a saved contact..
I thought it was my older Z5P messed up. I bought the XZP today and to my suprise it's the same thing !
The Note 5 will display any number that contains the pattern listen !!!

Why do i need to use another dialer in the store if the Xperia dialer in Android 6.x was fine until lollipop and the one in Nougat is obviously flawed ? how come they remove features with time instead of improving ?
No single phone lacks such a basic feature anyway. It's a phone afterall before being a smartphone...
You may need to use another dialer from the play store.

I actually noticed this too. Very annoying. I had to add a load of additional address book entries to compensate.
I'm getting a little bit tired of seeing suggestions to use better third party apps, but then this phone comes with SwiftKey lol. I'm all for stock android, if these things that are getting complaints like dialer and messaging are stock android, google needs to improve them, if not Sony does.
This is not Google mistake. It's Sony who's lagging behind.... Seriously if there is no solution for this I'm selling my device on ebay.. It's a 12 hours old 799 EUR freaking phone that CANNOT BE USED AS A SMART PHONE.
For someone who picked a flagship device and has a lot of business going on and dozens of phone calls daily I dont want to save everyone's phone number to my contacts.
Come on.... someone must have figured out. Tbh I'm a bit suprised it's not mentioned everywhere.
Please explain to me how ANY phone dialer can give a recommended number based on only a few digits if it is the FIRST time you received the call? The dialer has to have something to pull its recommendations from... either a previously logged number, or a contact. It cannot pull an entire phone number out of the air without something to reference.
Am I making myself clear here?
No the problem is you don't understand. The phone should search in the CALL LOG not only contacts. ok ?
The XZP is only searching contacts, not previously dialed/received numbers....
I am using the ZenUI dialer and it does what you need. It searches contacts and logged numbers.
Nevermind, ZenUI interface is not my taste at all.
I switched to truecaller dialing app and so far it's OK
