The fm radio if available should have a tuner app on one of the menus. Sony has had excellent FM radios on their earlier Xperia devices. The tuner app would allow one to scan the FM radio band and then store preset stations , and will operate in the absence of either a WiFi signal or cellular network coverage.
It usually needs the earphone cable connected , to act as a whip antenna.
The electronics for implementing a radio has been embedded in the Snapdragon chip, but it needs to have driver software provided by the vendor.
My greatest regret in my current phone a European version of the Samsung s7 , otherwise an excellent product, is that it either has no electronics for implementing a radio, as it uses a different chip than the USA model( which is Snapdragon), or it does not have drivers
I understood that the us government was mandating that all phones on sale in their jurisdiction, would have working FM radio, for Emergencies
