In some videos on YouTube, I can't select 1080p, even though I know they exist in 1080p. In some I can only choose 480p.
I have tried to reset the app to factory settings, but did not help.
@Luffen this is not an issue related to the device itself but YouTube. It's known that some videos are not showing properly using the YouTube app, try to open youtube from Chrome (yes, you can do so) and try if from the web version you can change the resolution. It works (at times) on my X compact.
I'd tried the mobile version in chrome, in which you can't change quality - the desktop version actually worked as you suggested.
Have you found any alternative app's then?
Using the desktop version in chrome is kinda clunky.
Thanks so far.
@Luffen I am afraid there is no other way but the "hack" of using the desktop version on chrome.
I am sure the Android/YouTube API allow to change resolution but for some weird reason Google isn't implementing it properly. I am sure it's related to some APPS being able to scrape/download content from YouTube in HD.
In some cases, Youtube always detects the actual resolution with help of ppi and shows that quality only to save your data as it'll be useless to stream 1080p if your phone's hardware can reach only 720P. If it's on a few YouTube videos, you can try to change the browser or update YouTube app to fix it.
Also, you can download the videos dirctly with keepvid or alike program. I find some useful tools there: http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/best-sites-to-download-videos.html
YouTubeinmp4 is the good one that can used on phone so I think its the best for you.
