You can't be serious... OLED IS the future ...i know that samsung using QD tech in their tv why??because oled panel is expensive and hard to produce ..THEY will switch to oled soon.

LG have the best Tv they using wrgb oled panel ...(and sony buying oled panel from LG Display)

As you know apple wants  switch to OLED display  too and they're buying oled panel from samsung ..

Sooner than you think all manufacturer will switch to OLED.

Galaxy S8 has the best display not only for great color accuracy ...

  • A new 3K Higher Resolution 2960 x 1440 Quad HD+ display with 570 pixels per inch.
  • Support for 4 Screen Modes and 3 Standard Color Gamuts with High Absolute Color Accuracy based on displaymate extensive lab measurements.
  • A new full 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut and Digital Cinema mode that is also used for 4K Ultra HD TVs, so the Galaxy S8 can display the latest high-end 4K video content. The DCI-P3 Gamut is 26 percent larger than the Rec.709 Gamut that is used in 2K Full HD TVs.
  • The Galaxy S8 is the first Smartphone to be certified by the UHD Alliance for Mobile HDR Premium, which allows it to play all of the same 4K High Dynamic Range content produced for 4K UHD Premium TVs.
  • A new Video Enhancer that provides HDR-like Expanded Dynamic Range for photos and videos that don’t have HDR coding.
  • A new record high Peak Brightness with over 1,000 nits, which improves screen visibility in very high Ambient Light, and provides the high screen Brightness needed for HDR.
  • A new user adjustable White Point with RGB Color Balance slider controls that can change the Color of White for the Adaptive Display screen mode.
  • New front and back Dual Ambient Light Sensors for significantly improved Automatic Brightness settings.
  • A new Night Mode with a Blue Light Filter that allows the user to adjust and reduce the amount of blue light from the display for better night viewing and improved sleep.
  • A larger Native color gamut with a new high saturation “Deep Red” OLED, resulting in a very impressive 113% of DCI-P3 and 142% of sRGB / Rec.709 Gamuts that also provides much better on-screen Colors in High Ambient Light.

Since 2013 the Display Power Efficiency of the Galaxy series of Smartphones has improved by a very impressive 56%. This year the new OLED materials on the Galaxy S8 have improved optical and power efficiency with its larger Native Color Gamut than on the Galaxy S7 (142% compared to 131% for sRGB / Rec.709).

While Smartphones are primarily single viewer devices, the variation in display performance with viewing angle is still very important because single viewers frequently hold the display at a variety of viewing angles. The angle is often up to 30 degrees, more if it is resting on a table or desk. While LCDs typically experience a 55 percent or greater decrease in Brightness at a 30 degree Viewing Angle, the OLED Galaxy S8 display shows a much smaller 29 percent decrease in Brightness at 30 degrees. This also applies to multiple side-by-side viewers as well, and is a significant advantage of OLED displays. The Color Shifts with Viewing Angle are also relatively small and somewhat better than the Galaxy S7

The Galaxy S8 matches or sets new Smartphone display performance records for:

  • Highest Screen Resolution 3K (2960x1440).
  • Almost every display lab test and measurement shows some improvements compared to the Galaxy S7.

let's make SONY great again.they need to use OLED panel in future Xperia Smartphones!

I'm sorry, but I don't think an answer could be useful considering your blind position.

I let you trust what you read about OLED display but I want suggest you to go deep about the tech.

About color gamuts, brigthness ecc you can start reading Smasung statements. Trust me, is not a cash problem produce big OLED display, especially when are you to prodece internally them.

Are you sure that the Standard Mode of XZP doesnìt cover the DCI-P3 standard? You know for example that a gamut is evaluated in terms of volume and not simply in the CIE1931 chart?

If for you red that are displayed oranges mean great color accuracy, I don't say nothing about your tastes.

I'm the first not fully satisfied from Sony, but about display I trust in a brand that always made them and not in a brand that produce washing machines...

I don't think the future will be OLED, because not durable panels, degrades quickly and colors aren't realistic for intrisic nature of the tech also with perfect calibration. Plus, there is the problem of flickering, dangerous for eyes, dragged transitions, peak level max only localized in a little point and not in all surface ecc. But if Sony will switch to OLED, for me there are more other brands that will use LCD.

Best.

He has no idea what he's talking about; he sits there quoting Samsung and even makes obvious mistakes like saying the S8 has the highest resolutiom display (lol) or that it has 4 modes, as if that is in any way meaningful. He's a sad person with nothing better to do; he should be banned from this forum sohe could be more productive in professing his S8 love on an appropriate forum.I have yet to see him make a single useful contribution in my time here.. Refer to my earlier post. First of all, "142% sRGB" is a completely fictitious number made up by Samsung propaganda site DisplayMate who has been continuously ridicing Samsung hype train for years and have shown an obvious bias in favour of OLED. The number itself is not corroborated by anyone; not evem Samsung themselves. Meanwhile, the XZ Premium has an actual verified 138% sRGB, verified by Sony themselves.

OLED degrades in about a month of use to anyone who is sensitive to these things, and even if you're not, you'll be disappointed putting a 1 month old OLED next toa brand new one. (http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/20372_Do_AMOLED_phone_screens_degrad.php).

The XZp absolutely covers DCI P3 and only an ignorant person would say otherwise. If you would like prpof, you can download the images from Webkit's website ( https://webkit.org/blog-files/color-gamut/ )download the DCI P3 image with the pattern, and you will be able to see it. You won't see it on Chrome, as Chrome does not support wide gamuts yet unfortunately; this can be corroborated here: https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys8/comments/6j96rl), but you'll be able to see it in the Google Photos or Album apo or even the Downloads app.

As for viewing angles, that's a non issue, unless you frequently view your phone from a 120+ degree angle; anyways, my S7 has a much more noticeable green colour shift at an angle, while the XZp only decreases in brightness.

I think the buggest argument against OLED can come from someone who has used it and compared it against an LCD long term; OLEDs just don't perform well. I have an S7, which was purchased 6 months after my Z5p, but by the time I returned the Z5p to get the XZp, it's screen was practically brand new, while the S7 was dull, splotchy, had some minor burn in, and significant white point shift towards green.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, if Sony switches to OLED, I wi no longer buy their phones. MicroLED might be a replacement for LCD in the future, but OLED? Not a chance. It's an inherently flawed technology.

Hi @LogicAnalyzer,

I agree with your answer because explain well what I wrote before. And I agree also with your statement about the non buy a new Sony if they will switch to OLED.

I think he is free to say what he want, but this is not the right topic.

There are so many aspects to consider against OLED tech, but this is not the rigth topic where analyze and discuss them. About the gamut coverage, all reviews consider the standard CIE1931 but has been demonstrated that this is obsolet and not reliaby with the human perception. So now calibration software and industries use the CIE1976; from mesuares in this way, the XZP display results very well calibrated either in Standard mode (for DCI-P3 gamut) than in Professional Mode (for sRGB gamut). More, the DeltaE in Professiona Mode is less than iPhone7 Plus!!!

Samsung S8, from all reviews, has too oversatured display also in Basic Mode and high color accuracy; its a technical feature of OLED displays. At high angle the color of OLED display change tending to tints light green while LCD only lost brightness but colors remain as they are. More, quantum dot display has a better energy management and more natural colors, brilliant and not oversatured, because use blue light instead white one.

However, returning to the discussion, personally I like this device but now I wait 2 mounth because IFA 2017 is the 1st September and Sony will present new devices. However for sure not new 4k HDR devices with 5.5 inch display. The only thing for how I wait now, is too see eventual new lens or tech and a possible fix for the XZP's camera distortions.
