xperia z3 compact encrypted or not?

hello,

being a quite satisfied xperia z3 compact owner (no carrier branding or whatsoever) i upgraded ota t marshmallow 6.01. some days ago, and so far everything works fine. now i decided i wanted to finally encrypt my phone (16gb internal storage) and external sdcard (samsung evo 64gb sdxc class 10 uhs-i). before that my phone never was encrypted.

so i connected the phone to the charger to charge it for the needed 100%. due to "power paranoia" i kept the phone connected to the charger and initiated the encryption. the prcess asked for the pin, i out it in, the phone began with the encryption showing a moving padlock. already after some minutes the phone rebooted, it asked for the pin, i put it in, the normal boot procedure worked fine, i was asked for the sim-pin and the lockscreen pin as well and was in. fine.

but as i checked the encryption status in settings, the phone didn't state anything like "encrypted" and still offered encryption. as i had read somwhere that encryption might not wirk correctly with the setting of "passwords visible" i disabled that setting and encrpyted again, which resulted in the same behavior: after a moving padlock for some minutes restart of the phone, pin, boot sequence, sim-pin, lockscreen pin, done. but the encryption status in settings still was like i could encrypt again.

all those procedures took place while my phone was on the charger. after that i disconnected it from the charger, and this morning with about 98% battery as i checked the encryption status again the "next" button for the encryption procedure was not active - probably due to the fact that the battery has not 100% power.

now i wonder, if my phone is really encrypted or not? does anybody know a way to check?

it seems in original google marshmallow setting should show status "encrypted" in settings like here but i don't know, if it's supposed to be the same with the "sony mod"...

hope you guys can help me with this.

no, it is not encrypted.

you can try once again, but if it fails then just wait for the next Marshmallow update.

what you did was 100% correct. what the phone did was: software bug.

hey, accidentally i just realized that now my z3c says that it's already encrypted when i try to encrypt. maybe the behavior before was some kind of bug in correlation with the encryption of the sd-card: as sd-card encryption did not work for me personally as i had hoped concerning convenience, i formatted the sd-card and did not encrypt it again. and now my z3c tells me that it's encrypted. odd.
