Smartband accuracy compared with Fitbit one

Hi,

I'm curious to see how accurate the smartband is so I've been wearing it simulateously with my fitbit one. Readings are interesting - see table below for details.  Generally, with the odd exception, it appears to under read by about 5%. Is this so that it balances out if you are very demonstrative with your hands or something?!?  Also, holding hands with kids lost me a lot of steps.

This arvo I marched 200 steps twice with fitbit also attached to the smartband (normally I wear the FB attached to my top). FB = 205 on both times, Sony 172 then 145. I have noticed that sometimes it takes a while for the lifelog app to register the steps - somtimes as long as 10 mins even though I hit refresh. For example the 145 above jumped 15 mins later to 224, I presume making up for the earlier readings ie 172+224 = 396, just 4 off the 400, thus slightly more accurate than the FB. I was sitting at my desk fairly still reading so no extra steps taken.

Sony - any comments on how the smartband is calibrated? In your tests how do you find it compared with fitbit etc?

Obviously the main thing is that it is consistent.  If I have to work a little harder to get 10,000 steps each then that will only do me good!

THanks, Melanie

Edited to add: Have just come back from a brisk  2 mile walk: FB measured 3867 steps and Sony 3808 which is pretty darn close. So, I suspect it "drops" the more incidental steps during the day rather than the more purposeful steps.

Edited again to add:  Went back through yesterday's log to pick out the 10k run: FB 11,415, Sony 11,364 so again very close.

I must stop this comparison - it's getting obsessive! 🙂

Yes I am also concerned about the accuracy of this smartband. I only walk about 20 mins a day on my lazy days and it says that I've burnt 2500 calories. How does true can that be?
