Does the Z2 have Gorilla glass and is it quite robust?
I've had glass break on me for a seamingly inexplicable reason (the back of a Nexus 4 while charging overnight) so I do sympathise.
I also epxect that in the majority of cases people don't want to admit they have broken their phone - even if it has been stressed or bent in a pocket rather than dropped.

Think a few people do experience the 'self cracking' & believe that 'it just happened' but you need to look at tolerances ie the gaps between the screen/frame (some are tight up against the frame in sections) & how the Z2 is carried around by the individual......you could be as careful as possible but it only needs a second of someone 'flexing' the phone in their pocket to start the problem, could be an hour later or a week later that it cracks......i never carry my Z2 nor my previous Z or Z1 in my trouser pockets...the phone is too big..........also i do think that some of the severe cases of overheating contribute to the screen issue
Obviously this is my opinion & i do not 'bellittle' those unfortunate people who have suffered this problem
I'm speaking about tight jeans for example, front/back pockets...not so much say cargo trousers etc.....its the overall size of the Xperia Z series of phones that i think make carrying them around in pockets where there is the slight risk of flexing when bending your legs etc....same with all the other big smartphones.....i know lots of people who are totally put off mobiles of this size for exactly this reason.......the design of 2 pieces of glass sandwich does not help but i'd rather have that than plastic!!!!
I do think the overheating & the uneven gaps is a big factor also.....perhaps the Z3 will have slightly thicker glass screen/different type ( like the new iPhone 6).....
I can totally understand & sympathise with people who have suffered these breaks.......i did read somewhere that you will have to pay extra for the iPhone 6 if you want the tougher glass....not sure if thats true tho but would not be surprised
Batc number doesn't have any connection with screen cracking :smileysmileywink: Anyhow, if you want to know I have 14W20, no problem at all with phone.

Sony actually replaced my phone free of charge today. The guy took one look and called his boss who said to replace the handset for free. I'm just too scared to use the phone now. I bought a tempered glass protector but I don't think that will help prevent the screen self cracking. Can you tell me your batch number as you seem to have a lucky handset.
Thats good Chris.....read on another post that you had managed to get a straight swap.....my build number is one of the earlier 14W16 ones, but dont think build number is the issue, true there may be a few that were not built as good as the rest but that is prob a tiny minority & depends who built them that particular day!!!!!!
Hope you have better luck with this one :smileysmileywink:
