Gyroscope problem?

Hello everyone,

recently I've purchased 3 XPeria Tab Z2. I'm a software developer and one of the tablet features I use is the gyroscope. I've experienced some problems with it.

In fact, the gyroscope basically measures the orientation along 3 axis. My recent experience with the Z2 is, that 1 of the 3 axis (always the "left/right turn" axis) does not work as expected but always resets to 0° after the rotation.

I've exchanged the 2 devices that had this problem and the replacement devices worked OK.

So, my question: Is this a known issue? Does a FW update solve the problem?

We'ld like to advice our customers to use the Z2 when using our software because it runs best on it.

Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I'm sorry to hear that. As i understand you have now got your device replaced with one working properly.

I have tried to replicate what you described but wasn't able to so I don't think its a software problem. (Did this test with the latest FW available).

Please let me know if you experience any other problems with your tablet.

Hi,

after several tests and in combination with Z2 tablets bought by my customers, we found that the gyroscope really isn't reliable.

In a lot of cases, if I physically turn the tablet by 90° the "left/right" axis, any software I use and any implementation I do (with the Android SDK) returns values between 40° and 120°. Values differ by tablet and by program restart.

We had to return 2 tablets to our supplier because of complete failure of the gyroscope (not reacting at all or wildly changing values even if the tablet is lying still on the table.

Is there any 100% reliable way to get the orientation of the Z2 tablet?

Best regards,
