Sony Z2 that itself imploding !?!
Bought a while ago a Z2 after reading good reviews about it. (Would) be used as a work phone. At my company, we travel frequently around the world and we need good smartphones.
So i bought tme the phone and the second day, invisible shield plastfilm cover, and a huge flip cover in leather, which covers the phone around, and both the back and front side.
After only 5-6 days, I noticed suddenly that the entire front screen has cracked into hundreds of pieces!?!
At 10.00 phone was ok, at 10.30 am completely broken without even touched it?!?
It just.... explode without reasson?!?
I had the phone for 7 days, never dropped it, protected it as best way I could, but it just implodes on its own?!?
Having left it serviced / warranty and now it will soon be three weeks and no one has even looked at it.
I guess, unfortunately, I will have an answer from service such "You "broke it".
But it feels good to at least know that these phones can explode by itself.
If the service team come to such conclusions, and Sony do not take their rsponibility, I will make sure that no one ever in my company buys a Sony phone any more.
But, still hope, that Sony will fix it without any charge, and fix problems with tenssions in to their screeens ( or whats the problem) ´.
Happened to me too, went outside using the phone put on some music through Spotify, left safe and flat on the picnic table under the parasol as it was a sunny day and I know never to leave devices in direct sunlight. Came back in to get a drink, as soon as I went back out and went to change the track saw this and device is now inoperable.
If you have had this issue please get in touch with me on Twitter @stublake13 I don't want to let Sony squirm out of standing by their device with the warranty and if they do to let everyone know!
Woke up this morning to find my screen had cracked overnight whilst on bedside table!! No dropping or banging involved. Couldnt believe it until i started looking online this morning and seeing all the comments, articles and Watchdog program stuff re the cracking screen.
Spoke to Sony Care people, they said its NOT a known issue and I need to send off to them for repair stating if its not a problem with the phone but it was a user issue (there speak for me dropping it!) they will quote me for repair and then charge me 15 quid to send it back if i dont want them to repair it. Should i send it off to them? has anybody got it fixed under warranty? or will they just say you dropped it, not our fault.
My old iPhone had a cracked screen but still managed to work fine.....maybe i will go back to the iPhone depending on the outcome....
Not Happy.
Also instead of ringing the number sony gave to ring (08705 237 237) try 020 8762 5800 and ask for customer care. save paying the 0870 charge!
If the sony care people are saying this is not a known issue then they are either missinformed or are down right lying to customers.
Sony have admited to BBC Watchdog that screens can crack for no reason, please see this thread
Here is link to youtube video of that part of watchdog https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnDZe9KEWyY
Hope this is of some help
I guess I get to join this rapidly growing club. I've had my Z2 for just under a month. I use it alot as i run a website. lots of twitter and various social media, emails etc. realised last night that I have a substantial sized crack across the glass on the back of the phone. My carrier seems to want nothing to do with it. Finding Sony's customer service to be terrible, even had one guy on the phone admit that he knows I wouldn't be treated this way by Apple with the same issue! they want my phone for 14 business days (which is about how long I've owned the phone) to decide if its physical damage. They are throwing away the chance at creating a customer for life by showing me how bad their customer service is. Is anyone having any luck with someone willing to do anything for them with this issue?
Sam
Another one to join the club of self-cracking Z2's and recipient of poor after-care. Its quite clear that the series of phones are prone to the issue and Sony are too ignorant to admit as such.
After owning an iPhone for years and giving Sony a chance, I have been left utterly disapointed. Such as shame as the phone itself is fantastic.
Had the same problem with mine, only I only noticed the cracks, which lead to a split in the bezel directly above the waterproof flap for the charge port, after I had submerged the phone and the screen completely died. Now about a week on I still can't get anything out of the phone and I get the feeling Sony are going to shrug me off as they have done with everyone here.
Another problem I'm having is that I need the IMEI number which is accesible if you have a working phone (which I don't) or it is under the phone battery, which on the Z2 is inaccesable, so, nicely done Sony.
The phone fell off from my daughter's hand. It was working when I took the phone from her.
Then, I put it on charging with USB on my laptop. And, in the evening I found that upper part of the screen was not working. I thought it happened because it fell from my daughter's hand. But, now after reading this forum, I can confirm that screen is getting broken itself.
Anways, I have 6 months accidental warranty with my phone. 2 pair of my shoes already gone because of going to service center again and again. And, no positive reply from them.
Stay away from SONY. Found that xiaomi mi3 has all the features for 1/4th price. I will go for that. And, will never use SONY products again in future. I do not want to go in detail. Guys, if I tell you the whole story, you can clearly see that I am crying and it costed me a forturne to buy this phone.
Thank you God Almighty that you saved me from this company and it was just a phone. And, I was going to buy Sony HDTV 4 times the price next year. I did not know as I was the first one to buy this phone in my city and it was first time that I was using SONY services. Please stay away from this fraud company.
