I have suffered the same cracking issue, top right on the front of the screen has a hairline crack. The device has not been dropped or subject to stress, highly disappointed.

Will be visiting the service centre today to see what can be done.

Will update.

For anyone who is affected in the UK, Sony has given a telephone number to call (08705 237 237) which is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm and on Saturday from 9am to 5pm. uk only i'm affraid as it's a UK program, this issue is very known to sony from previous models so please everyone persevere with it and keep complaining, even if you have to goto trading standards, and media outlets i'm sure sony will soon sort this out try on twiiter and facebook as most companies don't really like bad publicity on it's products.

I just visited the sony service centre to check the progress of my repair. They haven't started the repair on my phone yet but said there will be a charge as the screen is not covered by warranty and I must have caused the damage myself. I explained that I never and told them how it happened. I also showed them this thread and some other websites where people have had the same issue. They then said they would investigate the self cracking screen issue and get back to me. I'll update with my progress when I have more information. Fingers crossed 😕

I get the idea that a screen cant crack on its own. Mine dropped back down in a case onto a thick carpet from my bed (about 2 feet) and the screen popped off the main body of the phone ripping the ribbbon cable in the process. The screen itself was undamaged otherwise. And the phone was playing music at the time and continued to play after the screen was seperated.

I sent this to SBA repairs after speaking with sony customer support, subcequently i have had a reply stating the phone is beyond repair and that it was malicious damage. Frankly im disgusted with them.

Sorry that turned into a rant. What you guys think i should do.

Oh and i forgot they want £14.50 to return my paperweight even though its freepost to send it to them!

The screen can fracture on its own, I witnessed my second z2 happen!

I have had my z2 less than a month, took it out of my pocket at work, the screen was cracking in my hand.
I simply couldn't believe it - tiny slithers of glass actually got sprayed on me and I had to pull a few of them from my hand. Exactly like dpz's phone. This is ridiculous.

I spoke to Sony about this, they said to send the phone in, now I'm worried I will have to pay in excess of 200 quid to get this thing fixed... It's not been dropped, there is a tiny scuff mark on it - even so that shouldn't cause such a catastrophic failure. This device is not fit for purpose. I can foresee this sort of thing happening when someone is on the phone, and would result in them getting a face full of glass shards.

If I am not offered a free repair, I will never buy another sony product. This is absurd, will be twitter shaming them... I miss my iPhone 4.
