Xperia XA2 Ultra does not charge

My phone is not charging right. It only works fine in safe mode but does not seem to recognize charger or any computer or other device when is plugged by the USB-c cord but seems to be fine when only in safe mode. It all started after an update with sony I think. In order to charge my phone I have to put it in safe mode every time. Phone is 7 months old. Never seen water or dust in protective cover. Anyone with ideas how to fix this software issue. I guess it's software. Tell me if I am wrong. Thanks RK

Hi @RussK, let me see if I can help out here.

The fact that the phone is able to charge as intended while in safe mode and not in normal mode is an indication that this behaviour is caused by an app downloaded from Play Store.

Unfortunately there is no easy way of finding out which app that is causing this behaviour. One thing that you can do is to go through the list of recently downloaded apps (Open Play Store > Tap the three horizontal lines > My apps & games > Installed > Sort by "Last updated") and clear data for them one by one until the charging works as intended again. But as this measure might be a bit tedious, you can also do a factory reset of the phone. Keep in mind though that a factory reset will erase all user data from the phone, so it is advised to do a backup before the repair in order to prevent data loss.

I hope that helped!

I did factory reset along with deleting all apps, lost all the data and hoped that will solve it but it did not. Now I noticed that when I plug the phone it does charges in safe mode but once with sim card it does not. Now I am even more confused than before. It charges randomly but never in normal mode. However I have no new apps only the apps that the phone came with by default.

Hi again @RussK,

In that case I would suggest that you try to repair the software using a computer and Xperia Companion to see if this behaviour is caused by the software. Keep in mind though that a software repair will erase all user data from the phone, so make sure to do a backup of your user data before the repair.

Let me know how it goes!
