Apologies if this has already been covered, but couldn't find any references...
When my VP battery runs down, and it's left for a few days, it loses all user preferences. Don't know why Sony didn't think of a HW solution for this like their cameras.
One solution via firmware upgrades would be to store all user preferences (different to factory settings) on the hard disk. These would then be loaded every power-up. Even a (somewhat late) clock and date could be stored this way, and restored, saving a complete reconfiguration from 2004 every time.
This way I could save having to re-do my time/date formats and values, shuffle/replay choice, equaliser setting, ...
Any ideas or interim solutions?
Due to the poor hardware design of this product the only safe bet is to leave it in the cradle on charge when not in use.
VP's quiescent current seems to be quite high powering the clock and maintaining all user configurations.
Most devices (including most digital cameras / laptops) have two batteries in them.
One small battery to remeber your settings / keep the time and another and the main battery to power the device.
Sony must have forgotten this when the knocked together the VP.
