VGN SZ5 XWN/C - Vista SP2, keyboard mouse no longer works.

HI, any thoughts on this welcome. It would seem that since updating to Vista SP 2 my integral keyboard mouse no longer works - instead I need to use a USB mouse which is very inconvenient. I know I can go back to a pre SP2 setting but before I did that just wondered if anyone had experienced the same issue ? Many thanks.

Does it still show as being installed correctly in Device Manager?

You could try reinstalling the Alps Pointing Driver - you should find it in C:\Drivers\Pointing or you can download it as part of the Original Drivers Package from here: -

Hi, thanks for the advice. I can't see the Alps device in Device Manager and have tried re-installing from the folder specified and the original drivers. Any furthe suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi msc66,

Press the windows key+R to open the Run box type devmgmt.msc and press OK

Click Continue on the User Account Control window.

Expand Mice and other pointing devices.

Is there a pointing device or PS2 mouse listed..?
