VAIO VGN-AW31ZJ - UNPROFESSIONAL !!!

'bought a VGN-AW31ZJ 2 weeks ago, and have nothing but problems...
(had a VGN-A497XP before, an was totally happy)

- Vista now crashes on a regular basis, without any track of the problem, no clue how to get to the cause ??

- Vista complains about a Sony driver (DMICall.sys) that it can't load, because the driver is not compatible with the system (that's what Vista says...)

- Pre-installed trials: big subjet.... 😞

What is Sony thinking ??? Do they really believe a 2000€ laptop is targetted at students ?? Otherwise, why do they pack a trial version of Office 'Home & Student' ?? That's ridiculous !! Most professionals did not wait for Sony to have licenses for Office, for an AV software (and many others), why crippling a professional system with trial software (unless Sony has a financial interest in doing so...)
I gave a try installing Kaspersky, but the box got so unstable that I restored the Sony Image, and bought a McAfee license (as said, maybe that's exactly what Sony was expecting me to do...)

- Windows 7 upgrade:

Sony pretends that the only upgrade path to Windows 7 is a 'clean' install, because of legal issues... that's bullshit !!! MS will deliver Windows 7 in Europe WITH IE8, making an 'in-place' upgrade possible.
Sony also didn't spend a word on pre-installed apps (I said apps, not utilities), like PhotoShop and Premiere Elements ?? Is Sony going to provide these applications again with the upgrade DVDs ?

If Sony doesn't catch up quickly, it will be much more efficient to buy a Windows 7 license yourself, because
- loosing 2 days for reinstalling everything (that's what it takes, at least... all the customer's applications, all data, all settings...) is unacceptable, and much more expensive than the Windows 7 upgrade license.
- this will keep the pre-installed apps

The Sony guys really behave like amateurs, and think their customers are, too. This is unacceptable ! Wake-up guys, and provide us with a Service that is in line with your prices !!

Hi fabiennecourtois and welcome to the forum.

Someone claims to have solved this problem by first removing some recent Windows updates. Have a look HERE .

I'll give it a try.

But since 2 days, I also had BludeScreens when hot-unplugging USB devices (just removing the iPhone from its base, for instance, was enough for a BSOD).

I know this is mostly MS bullshit (remove KB973879 + unofficial USB hotfix), but I'm really pissed off by the overall system's quality...

I'm a professional, I'm bying a 'system', not just a PC from Sony, and an OS from Microsoft... Otherwise, I can buy an Acer for 799,-€

I expect Sony to deliver a rock-solid base config, with a nice Software bundle (no Trials !!) and rock-solid drivers, and from that perspective, ther's clearly room for improvement.

I was hesitating for a MacBook Pro, and I must say, I'm close to regret it....
