How do I find out what Vaio updates have been installed on my laptop? Is there a history file somewhere?
Hi bobtrowell,
Did you download and install the updates via the Vaio-link web site or via the Vaio update utility.?
If you used the Vaio update utility you can view the update history by doing the following..
Double lick on the Vaio update icon in the system tray.
Click Accept on the vaio update disclaimer.
In the Vaio update window below the Update programs section click on Update programs which have been already installed.
I don't think this is a complete list of the updates installed but it's a start..
Another place you can check is C:\Update
Hi Thalamus,
Thanks for you reply. I didn't actually download any updates. I was trying to find out why I couldn't create recovery discs that led me on to what VAIO updates I had installed. The C:\UPDATE is empty and under what updates are installed via the Update utility shows only 'WINDVD BD (56.56 mb)'. Not very useful in that it doesn't tell me when it was installed? Looking at the Drivers and utilities Updates in Vaio Support for my laptop (VGN-FW21M) it shows a host of updates available with 5 that should have been accessed as part of the Update Utility. Only the WINDVD update appears to have downloaded. My update Utility is set to automatic. How can I tell if my Update utility (version 4) is working properly? Can it be re-installed? Shouldn't all the available updates for my laptop be presented to me via the Update Utility with the onus on me to install or not? As you can appreciate I am a bit concerned that I have no clear idea as to what VAIO Updates I have installed. I don't know if can help any further?

Hi Thalamus,
Once again thanks for your reply.
The Vaio update icon is always in my system tray and if I go to the Web page there is no updates to download. Even if I remove the icon with an 'exit' it re-appears following a reload of my laptop. I think there is something wrong with Vaio update. A search on other web sites shows that other users have experienced the same problem with no resolution other then check on what updates are available manually. I would prefer not to do this. Is there any way that the Vaio update utility can be reinstalled? If not, can the systems people at Vaio be given a bit of a kick to solve this problem?
Hi bobtrowell,
Unfortunately as far as I am aware the only way to re-install the VAIO update is to do a system recovery, unless you have any other problems I think that's more trouble than it's worth..
You can always check with vaio support, use the following link to find the contact details: Sony Vaio Support
I must admit the Vaio update icon is usually displayed on my VAIO but as I normally only install the Vaio updates when needed the list of updates is never empty..
Also I'm not sure if you are aware but not all of the updates for your VAIO are available via VAIO Update utility, if you click on the following link HERE you'll notice several more updates are available to download and install manually..
How I check what updates have been installed on my VAIO is to either..
Look in the history list on the vaio update web site, as I explained earlier
or
To check the version of the software or driver installed against the listed update version.
or
As I store the most of the updates in a folder on my VAIO I can check there also..
Hope this helps..
