HI
I have a Vaio FZ21Z, the notebook has worked very well for about a year, recently while I was using it, the screen went blank, but the fans and disks were still running and I could even connect to it via another PC, I switched it off and restarted it once logged in about 30 mins later the screen went again. The problem still exists, I have even restored it to factory settings and the same error exists. There are no warning messages in the event log
has anyone experienced anything similar on Vaio notebooks
any help would be useful and much appreciated

Hi shftin2003,
welcome to Club VAIO..
Do you have th same problem when you connect your Vaio to a monitor.?
If you're Vaio is still within warranty I suggest you contact Sony Vaio support.
Thanks you for your response
I've connected to a monitor, and that also goes off at the same time as the screen.
Ive also noticed when I switch it off and switch on straight away i start to see vertical lines at the bios section, it doesnt boot up at all then, so i switch off and leave it for 5 mins then its fine, until it goes again.
Unfortuanatetly its over a year old and outside of the warranty
There is a larger thread on this subject. It is little comfort, but you are not alone.
I have a SONY FZ21S which failed with a graphics chip (nvidia 8600m) problem 4 months out of warranty. Sony will not repair it without further cost to me. It contains a graphics chip with known problems.
SONY seem to think that by denying this problem exists, it will go away.
£800 on a laptop which doesn't even last 18 months is a joke, and so is SONY.
I have a lot of other SONY equipment, but this will be the last SONY that I will buy.
