I have a Vaio AR21M for almost 3 years now with no problems, but recently the screen started going black just for a second in the beginning and it would be all ok again. The last time it went black it didn't came back. The display light is sill on, but it's all black. I've rebooted it, but it did nothing. I have no ideia what the problem is or what to do. Can someone help me?
Thanks
1. Did you see the Vaio logo when you rebooted before the screen went black? If so try reinstalling the Video driver.
2. Can you still see the screen images if you look very closely at the screen or shine a torch on it? If so then your Inverter or Backlight may have a fault - or the wiring is unreliable.
3. Try connecting your Vaio to an external monitor using the VGA output. Does the external screen work normally? Yes - you have a screen problem - No you may have a motherboard problem.
In either case 2 or 3 you will probably need to ask a repairer to have a look at it.
I can't see the vaio logo when booting up, everything is black. I did connected the vaio to an external monitor and everything works. I can't see any images, the screen light is still on, but it's all black.
Is there any chance it might be a virus or something software related?
Sending it to repair will probably cost a lot.
I suggest that you contact Vaio Support as Sony have acknowledged that there is a problem effecting some NVIDIA graphics chips causing distorted video, random characters or blank screen issues.
This applies to the following models:
• VGN-FZ11x, VGN-FZ18x, VGN-FZ21x, VGN-FZ31x, VGN-FZ38x
• VGN-AR11x, VGN-AR21x, VGN-AR31x
• VGN-C1Zx, VGN-C2Zx
• VGC-LM1xx, VGC-LM2xx

Sony will cover the cost of repair (parts and labour) at no charge during the first four years following the date of purchase of the models in question.
