Unwanted processes

I just like to say, im new around here so heyy :]


I have a sony vaio AW11Z which I love however I have noticed that I have up to 78 processes running in the background. I want to get rid of a few stuff which I don't need, however I have a bit scared to do this, due last experience I had :[

I have done "msconfig" and gone into "start up" by disabling a few things. However is there any other options/programs I can use to cut down the number of processes being used?

BTW: Please, try to check about the process BEFORE start to delete. You will find a good process library here.
