I have 4 faulty keys on the keyboard of my fr415b.
i rang sony and was told they would not do it on warranty because it was ONE DAY out of warranty. There was no effort for discretion or anything. I know I legally dont have a foot to stand on, but come on!!!
I was told that if I wanted it fixed i would have to be charged £12.50 straight away, and then given a quote. If I got the quote, I would pay for it and get the Laptop delivered back for free. If I refused the quote I would be charged £41 to ship it back to me!!
I asked the guy on the phone for a rought estimate and he flatly refused.
This is TERRIBLE customer service.
Has anyone else had a keyboard repaired? If so, how much did it cost?
Thanks
Yeah it sucks doesn't it?
It's like giving Sony a blank cheque when you send in your VAIO
It is certainly not good but I expect it is a stance that the vast majority of Companies would take these days.
Don't take it the wrong way, I am not defending Sony it is a sad indication of the way things have become.
My other half was having a problem with an almost new Netgear 834G.. Dabs.com said that Netgear had a "direct replacement service", netgear phone support couldn't fix it , yet despite patiently waiting for a promised phone call, and despite numerous emails to Netgear there has been absolutely no reponse from Netgear either by phone or email.
She ended up buying a BT equivelant and has sworn to never by a Netgear product again.
These days everyone falls over themselves to sell you something but when there is a problem noone wants to know,
I am sure Sony know, as you do, that the problem didn't literally develope the day after the warranty ran out!

Yeah it is absolutely ridiculous.
I am lucky in that it is only the left, right, and down arrow key and the right ctrl button. Non-essential and I can make do without. If it we the Enter key I would be <profanity removed by moderator>.
So does anyone whol how much this is going to cost me?

No idea, as they might decide to change the whole keyboard.
Hi,
I can tell you how much it costs: Replacement of the whole keyboard costs 125,08 ¿.
I felt this pain in my ass on the first day of owning my new VGN-A215M.
Beeing happy I had my new Vaio, I put it on my desk to install nessessary software and to create these recovery-cd's.
I thought: Feel good and make yourself a nice coffee.....
And then the horror startet:
Whole coffee on the keyboard - tried to dry it - 4 keys not working - so tried to take the keyboard out of the laptop.
Unfortunately one key broke -grrrrrr.
So I had to send the laptop to sony to repare it.
Next week i'll get it back, having payed 125,08 ¿. What a <profanity removed by moderator>.
I wonder what's so expensive in this keyboard.
Buying an external keyboard just costs about 30,00 ¿.
Bye
Ladgaz
Holy mother of <profanity removed by moderator>. That is £86! I will just buy an external Keyboard and mouse and be done with it. I use it mainly as a desktop anyway, and the only time I go mobile is to dj or record things, so keyboard work is always done sat at my desk.
Bloody sony money grabbing <profanity removed by moderator>.
Sorry for the rant.
i just spoke to a local computer shop who really know their <profanity removed by moderator> when it comes to this sort of thing, and they suggested i clean the keys with some form of alcohol ...
is this wise?
